MMR If you didnt give vaccine becuase of autism.........

did you change your mind once they were diagnosed?

We didnt give DS the vaccine because we personally didnt feel there was enough evidence to reassure us that there wasnt a link to Autism.

However, now he has three and almost certainly has autism, we are thinking that our reason for not giving it is now not an issue so perhaps we could give him the vaccine??

Anyone who did the same? Just trying to gather our thoughts.

I wouldn't presume to advise you on the MMR. But whatever you decide please get the measles jab done as soon as possible (single or MMR).
There is a massive outbreak in Europe which is expected to spread here. Measles is very infectious and a serious illness compared to other infections.

My dd1 fine with all jabs. Dd2 we noticed 2 declines in her behaviour, one at 6 months after weaning and one after MMR. She won't be having the booster at school age or any other injection - ever

mum0fthree · 28/05/2011 23:55

What vaccinations do babies have before five months?

sneezecakesmum · 29/05/2011 21:55

Its all listed here:

Seems an awful lot for a tiny!

My DD has always clearly had issues which it seems now are likely ASD. I am a fairly strong advocate of immunisations and have allowed my children to have all that were required. I know that the MMR did not cause my DD's autism. However, I think a person can only make the decision based on their knowledge and intuition. If it didn't feel right to me I wouldn't do it.

nicevideoshameaboutthesong · 30/05/2011 09:22

there are even more given in the USA, including hepatitis B on the first day of life.

nicevideoshameaboutthesong · 30/05/2011 09:24

geeandfees: it never felt right to us, hence we never did it. there would always be that nagging question, that terrible fear of damage, and the likelihood of it happening to our kids is higher than the average population because of our autoimmune and autistic family histories... they have autism anyway, but it could have been made so, so much worse.

As is, neither of them have a 'GI disease' as such - DD1 tends to constipation but manages it better now that she is 7 and eats lots of apples, DD2 tends towards constant diarrhoea but we manage it by feeding her more bready type foods that solidify poo... neither one is in the constant pain they say accompanies autism, but what if we had vaccinated? They'd probably be on the other side, struggling like Wakefields' children. No thanks.

blueShark · 30/05/2011 11:58

DS1 (ASD mainly SL delay) had all routine jabs in UK, cant relate to the MMR causing any regression or delay; blaming all the ear and throat infections and the antobiotics he had just before and after the MMR.

DS2 had all jabs even Hep B and BCG on the first day he was born, no side effects, very NT.

I sympatise with everyones decisions and completely understand why someone decides against vacination.

blueShark · 30/05/2011 12:00

forgot to say, havent given the MMR booster to DS1 not because I worry of regression (although a friend of mine had her DS regress and ASD after the booster) but I worry he may get put of going to the GP

Try these abstracts - easily found on Medline, from respected peer reviewed journals.

and

silverfrog · 31/05/2011 15:02

I'm not really sure what your point is, LemonMOusse.

it has never been claimed that MMR causes autism (your second link apparentyl "shows" this is not the case - well, since it has never been thought to be the case, why would it?)

as for the genetics angle.

yes, there is undoubtedly a genetic element.

but you do know that there is more than one "autism", don't you? and that different triggers (environmental, medical and genetic) have been highlighted as important?

finally, I woudl like to link to this

an interesting read, which, as ever calls for more research.

LemonMouse · 31/05/2011 15:31

Just pointing out that there are several wide ranging reviews of current knowledge on the triggers of autism, all easily accessible on-line. Also, some people do think that MMR causes autism, whether that has been claimed by the scientific community or not! Not sure why you'd be angry about me posting a couple of links.

BTW, yes I do know that there is more than one "autism" having two sons, who are probably both on the spectrum (one with a firm diagnosis, one awaiting his assessment).

silverfrog · 31/05/2011 15:46

i'm not angry, lemonmouse. not at all.

bt I don't understand why anyone needs to prove that mmr doesn't "cause" autism, when it has never been claimed (other than in the popular press) that it does Confused

Pagwatch · 31/05/2011 16:00

Ds2 hasn't had any jabs since his mmr disaster.

Dd hasn't had any vaccines at all ever.

Ds1 hasn't had any since he was 3.

We don't cope with vaccines well

But I do like the occasional threads on the main board where I get calked a scaremongering, child killing fuck head. Those are always fun Smile

I wonder when we reached the point where, if you can identify anything to do with science in your work or educational background, you are allowed to be crass, bullying and hectoring. It seems to be all the rage.

silverfrog · 31/05/2011 16:11

...you missed out selfish, pagwatch.... oh, and delusional Smile

you'd think they could come up with some new lines, every so often

LemonMouse · 31/05/2011 16:39

Pagwatch and Silverfrog - Are you saying I'm saying those things? Please re-read what I've written, but until then I'm off this board. I've lurked for a while and just started posting but I've got enough going on in my life without this, and can get my support away from here!

LemonMouse · 31/05/2011 16:42

For the record - I have done a lot of reading, but like everyone else I can't read everything - but I've given my opinion based on what I've read.

silverfrog · 31/05/2011 16:43

LemonMouse - noooooooooo! Pagwatch and I have experience of several threads, over the years, on the main boards - where it gets really vicious.

the quotes and adjectives came from there, NOT form anythign you have said here.

on the main boards, and vax threads, you are considered delusional, selfish, scaremongering and a child killer if you do not immediately vacciante your child with any and all vaccines....

It was nothing to do wih anythign you have said here - stay, please Smile
