Hi after gaining online access to my sons medical records could someone tell me what it means.

Basically son had had issues for a number of years and i have had to push for every bit of help and often feel im being humoured.

Son underwent ados test and wasnt diagnosed so we are left in limbo as to whether he has special needs or not.

anyway after reading his record it says

Speech or language developmental disorder NOS with autistic traits but not enough to justify autism

We knew his speech was very delayed but he now talks very advanced for his age and uses very formal words which have been mentioned by school and his speech therapist so does this mean he doesnt have a disorder anymore or not?

Also what do the letters NOS stand for?

What would you take form this as no one ever tells us anything and we are made to feel like we are wasting people's time by pushing for help yet the speech therapist still wants to monitor him

Any help would be much appreciated thanks

Son is at nursery attached to school where he will be going and they have said he is quirky and likes to talk about the same things. They also said he likes to follow the adults round rather than play with other children but they didnt see any of these as cause for concern.
They said a lot of other children do this.
I worry as a lot of his obsessions are outside based like he has to look in grit bins if we are out anywhere or he likes to spot speed cameras. he also likes to know what signs mean as we pass them.

my frends son has a dx of PDD NOS - pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified. They told her it meant he was slightly autistic but not enough to meet full criteria and he had more of some symptoms in the DSM and less of others if that makes sense. So maybe sort of same for your child but with Language disorder

Hi. From your ds Medical Records, it says, yes, he has some difficulties. He has Speech&Language/Communication difficulties, and he has some definite Autistic traits, but not enough to meet the Criteria for a full ASD diagnosis.
Whatever Assessment Tool is used, there is a cut-off mark, and if you score over, you will be given a dx. Score under-no dx.
So, yes, your ds has genuine difficulties and I think you are right, that when he starts Reception, and is at school all day, his Needs may be more apparent, then they are just now.
There is nothing to stop you asking for another assessment say, in 6/8 months, if you still have concerns.
The DISCO is another Autism assessment tool. It is very detailed, aaand was used to dx one of my ds. I found it better than the ADOS, as it allowed for every little detail-going from infancy to how the child presents now.
CAMHS may not have seen your ds as he is being seen by a Pead. Where I am, most dc under 6yrs are seen by the Pead. Service, 6yrs onwards, they are referred to CAMHS.
Dont be fobbed off. If you are not happy, write a formal complaint to the Pead and/your PCT and explain what has happened, and that you had to find out your ds difficult. by obtaining his Records, and that you wish him to be monitored, not signed off. HTH.
