Good News (ref OT) and a Proud Moment

Yesterday and today some good things happened for us. I've been trying to get some OT support for a very long time now and today, myself and DH had a meeting with the area head of OT and DS's ASD Unit Co-ordinator. He's going to be doing a programme with his class (just 6 in it) which will hopefully help him to move on to the next stage in developing his motor skills etc. They're going to be doing it before summer and then hoping to move on to the next level after summer. Grin. I'm so delighted!

We also had DS's report home from school yesterday. It was excellent and it was the Parent Teacher's meeting this afternoon. (Busy day for us!) DS's teacher is a great teacher and when she was talking about the great progress he's made this year it made me positively glow Grin.

I'm not around this Friday for chat, so just had to share tonight.

That's lovely news, creatovator. Smile What are doing Friday night? Something nice, I hope.

creatovator · 26/05/2011 11:29

EllenJane - Thanks. I'm working the early part of the evening and then travelling to Bolton with the family to stay with my DH's parents for the weekend. We get on well with them and haven't seen them since Christmas so I'm looking forward to it. Lots of nice food and Wine and support. DCs love it!

Sounds lovely, I hope you enjoy your bit of TLC. I'm off to Turkey for the week, volcanic ash permitting, but the weather forecast there is for heavy rain! Sad At least I won't have to cook. Not looking forward to the journey.

creatovator · 26/05/2011 19:46

Turkey sounds wonderful. I think the volcanic ash is due to lift. Are you going to a hotel?

Yeah, it's a big complex with it's own pools and beach and two buffet restaurants and some smaller speciality restaurants (at a supplement.) So looking forward to it! Big treat this year. Crossing fingers for the flights and weather. DS2 isn't back from his Y6 residential til tomorrow so a long journey wasn't the best laid of plans. Trouble is DS1 is in secondary and I'm a TA so can't take holidays in term time, so little choice. Though it would be nice to have some adult company other than DH, IYKWIM. He's lovely but not that chatty!

creatovator · 26/05/2011 20:17

Ooh! Sounds sooooo good. Wish we could do something like that, but not quite brave enough yet. DS would probably cope now, but just can't be sure yet. Haven't had him on a plane since he was a baby (He's 9 now). Dread to think what it might be like. DD would be fine and probably enjoy the whole experience. Something to look forward to for us.

Maybe you'll meet some other adults there you can chat to. Quite often happens Smile. Buffet restaurants sound ideal. As much as you can eat and lots of choice. Does it include Wine too?

Lots of Wine with meals. We went to somewhere similar in Majorca first as it's only a 1 3/4 hr flight, thought we could probably stand that long with DS2 screaming! But he actually enjoyed it, played with the headphones and the radio/tv channels. Now we take an iPod touch or a Nintendo DS for the boring bits. (plus a universal charger!) First flight at 2 unDX, next time we risked it was age 8 to Majorca. He's 11 now and an old hand! We pay extra for reasonable day time flights now. Tired and grumpy leads to a meltdown, especially if bloody baggage is 2 hours coming off the plane at 3.00 am. (Speaks from bitter experience!)

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 26/05/2011 20:27

Oh yes, buffet restaurants essential for DC who cannot wait!

creatovator · 26/05/2011 20:43

You sound very experienced now. DCs want to go to Disneyland in Florida! Will have to save like mad (or maybe get a grant). If we went down saving route DS would probably be old enough to cope. Think we'd do the films all the way, but he would have difficulty keeping still.

We've just got the 3 to 4 hour drive to Bolton. They're used to that now and generally pretty good. I will not fill them with sugar (reminder to self!) before they go even though they're on holiday.

DHs Mum has just phoned organising some food for weekend. She's a Health Visitor and sooo understanding Grin. Supports me all the way.

MIL from heaven! How lovely. Smile Not one of those GPs still in denial 4 years down the line, then?

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 26/05/2011 20:58

Must admit, an eight hour flight for a first attempt may be a leetle ambitious! Grin

creatovator · 26/05/2011 21:08

Lol. I'm an optimist, but yes, 8 hrs is probably overdoing it the first time.

All 4 GPs are great Smile. DH was away on business at beginning of week. My parents (don't know acronym yet Blush) stepped in 3 times to help out. Unfortunately they can only do an overnight very occasionally.

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 26/05/2011 21:12

Know what you mean about acronyms. It too me ages to pick up on GP being grandparents as well as doctors! I just make them up half the time.

creatovator · 26/05/2011 21:20

Thanks Eveiebaby

EllenJane - signing out now. Going to do a bit of exercise before I eat all that nice food at the weekend. Also going to have my Friday night Wine after the exercise as I can't have it tomorrow night. Thanks for our Friday night chat.

Hope you have an even better hol than you're hoping for - with good weather Grin.
