Is walking on tip toes a big sign of ASD?

hi

My son is 3 and has language delay, he is seeing a paed next week for first time. He seems to be walking on his tip toes more than ever recently. Is this very autistic?

Walking on tiptoes can be a result of sensory issues or physical or neurological issues. Not all children who walk on tiptoes have autism and not all children who have autism walk on tiptoes either though. It could be a small part of a larger picture or it could be nothing at all. Mention it to the paed though as some children need casts or supports to bring their heels down.

Thanks. I do walk on my tip toes too sometimes but don't even realise I'm doing it so wonder if he gets it from me. I will mention it to paed along with all his other issues.

What about if your child slaps themselves over the head and grunts - what does this mean? This is a new one!!

Another one to mention to the Paed, I think!

My DS (asd) never walked on his toes. In fact, when the paed asked, when he was being assessed I thought it was some developmental milestone he had missed, so I was apologising that he couldn't do it yet! Blush

I have two girls with autism. One toe walks and one doesn't. The one who toe walks is normally flapping at the same time.
It maybe one idicator in many but by no means means they def have asd
