Just as the title says really. ds (4) is becoming increasingly aware that he is "different" to other children - epilepsy and Verbal dyspraxia. Does anyone have any ideas of books for his age which we could sit down and read together and which also might be useful for use in class? Thanks in advance x

there's a good picture book you can get on amazon and in some Waterstones called ""Don't Call Me Special"

we got a book from the library. i think it was called 'my friend has dyspraxia'

I'm slightly amused by TotalChaos' book as my dd found the book "I'm special" helpful. It is talking (I think mostly) about physical disabilities so it may not be what you're looking for. But when dd noticed the teacher was missing his hand she got very excited. She then decided she was going to be a teacher... until she met Cerrie Bernell when she decided to be a TV presenter for a few months.

Try 'Something Else' by Kathryn Cave. www.amazon.co.uk/Something-Else-Picture-Puffin-Kathryn/dp/0140549072 It's a lovely story, very well told and illustrated, not specifically about learning difficulties or special needs but great for any child who might ever feel 'different'. Heart-warming and reassuring without being sickly sweet.
We borrowed it from the library ages ago without realising it's relevance but on reading it I thought the story ideal for my ds who is now 5.
It's perfect for that age group and I think fantastic for using in school to support phse for all children. Only £3.99 on amazon too.

Thanks for the suggestions - will order them from the library and then see which ones we use in school x
