Looking for advise please...anyone
My DD 6 has her first appointment with the paed. coming up. I know in my heart she is on spectrum and I'm finding it so so hard.
I haven't told our family about her appointment but I'm sure she will. More importantly I don't know how to to tell her why she is seeing the doctor.
What should i tell her? Its a check up?
thanks

Just tell her its a check up with a different doctor to normal cos she's 6. Remind her that she sees the dentist/optician regularly to check everything is OK. Tell family/friends it's a developmental check up - no need to say more until you know more iykwim.

That way you'll avoid all the uniformed "opinions" until you yourself are more knowledgeable of what's going on, which following the appointment you will be.

Hi I agree you should just tell her it is a check up.
With regard to you dh being in denial, I believe this is very common. It took my dh well over a year to accept there was a problem even though his eldest son has AS. He was as much use a a chocolate teapot tbh so I just got on with it myself. He does accept it now that our ds is autistic although I still do all the grind (paperwork, school stuff) but at least now I can discuss most of it with him. Hang in there, he will get there, it just seems to be more difficult for men to accept.
Good luck :):):)

My DH is another chocolate teapot case....trying to be positive.he will get his head round it...
thanks
