Appropriate training for S&LT TA - what is it?

I'm contesting the S&LT provision in DS' statement. He has a TA who has no particular training in anything but has had a couple of sessions with our S&LT and the NHS one.

The statement says the programme must be delivered by a S&LT with 'appropriate training' and that school should have 'access to' a variety of training programmes - which I know is meaningless.

DS has 6 S&LT visits a year and this is clearly all going to be used up on propping up the TA who is having to have her sessions virtually scripted at the moment.

Our report states DS needs weekly direct therapy but I feel this is ambitious and I would be happy with more S&LT visits if we had a properly trained TA who was able to work independently.

I've got the working statement at the moment and want to deal with the 'appropriate training' bit. Any ideas what this should consist of?

DS has AS and is 8 and is in m/stream
