DS hates his plaster cast

OMG 10 days after breaking his arm he's now got out of the 3rd plaster cast. This particular one has lasted a grand total of 10 hours. The 1st lasted 4 days, the second 6 days and now this one 10 flipping hours. What are we going to do? The 1st one he smashed off in a meltdown. The 2nd one he broke in a mad throwing himself around the room in the middle of the night and the one tonight he systematicaly picked his way out.

Oh no, rebl! I've got no idea what you can do. Do they do extra tough casts?

blimey rebl, that must have taken some doing! Have the hospital come up with any ideas, they must have come across this before.

This last one was meant to be the toughest material available. This one though he's not smashed up like the other 2. This one he's found the end, worried at it and got it loose and then unraveled it. I can't face A&E again today so we've gaffer taped it back up and I'll take him tomorrow morning when I know it'll be quiet.

My friends little boy did this (managed to get of several casts), in the end they gave up and let it heel with just a tubie grip (sp). Hope you manage to find something that works.

He should be in a fibre glass one by now, preferably a colour of his choosing. Plaster casts are rubbish for anything but very short term use. Only problem is fibre glass casts usually need the dreaded plaster saw to remove them and they are terrifying to most kids so it may be a problem if DS is hypersensitive to noise.

How's it going this morning, rebl?

rebl · 22/05/2011 20:15

This last one was a fibre glass one! I managed to speak to the consultant and he said that the best would be that we go on Monday to an appointment so that ds didn't have to cope with A&E which would have stressed him. So we're going tomorrow morning. TBH I'm beginning to wonder if a cast is really going to work this time.

Might just have to mend crooked? Don't envy you, rebl. (Good excuse not to let them take him to school? Every cloud.....)

Heavens above rebl that is one determined boy there! I used to struggle to get one off with a plaster saw, cant imagine how he managed. Just hope you find a plaster technician with a few tricks up his sleeve. Letting his arm mend crooked is a bit of a no no. I only hope something works!
