Ds2 sleeping without a stairgate - yaaay!

We've always put a stairgate across the corridor at night so that Ds2 can get to the bathroom but not wander the rest of the house. Three days ago we had to use the stairgate for something else (long boring story) so left it off. He wandered a bit, but didn't come downstairs. The next night he got into bed with DS1 at one point, but went back to his room when asked (after Ds1 got fed up with being hugged!). Tonight we left him with a babysitter and he was fine. In fact I think he's going to sleep more quickly.

It's a small thing but it feels like a big thing! I was beginning to wonder what would happen when he could step over the damned thing Grin

Yay sphil junior! Smile Funny how easily they manage these big changes sometimes, but then struggle because you've run out of the right sort of crisps/cereal/ketchup etc.

It does seem like a huge step forward!! DS2 is 4yo and still has a safety gate on his bedroom door (as well as on practically every door in the house it seems!) as he is still not ready to be "released" throughout the house yet.

DH tends to open his safety gate and say in a booming "Clash of the Titans" voice: RELEASE THE KRAKEN! Hmm Grin

Grin that really made me laugh! DS2 did come into our room at 6.30 this morning and shout 'CHANGE!' in a sleep-shattering voice ( he wanted different pjs on ). But at 4 we would never have considered taking the gate off - in fact until last week I couldnt imagine doing so.

Hmmm - think the honeymoon period may have passed. Last night he had a lovely time smearing toothpaste all over the shower door and tonight has been running in and out of DS1's room laughing like a drain.

Bugger! Grin Well, there's no turning back! (Unless you really can't stand it, of course.)

Oh no, thats it now. We are using the stairgate to block the bathroom he doesnt use (scene of toothpaste incident) and where we keep all the things he can smear and spread!Grin

Mind you, when I sent him back to bed last night he did say ' I cant sleep' - a three word phrase is highly unusual for him, let alone one that isnt rote learnt, so there are positives in everything!

You'd be surprised what they can smear and spread..............
