Absolutely Headsprout. You gotta stick with it, and aim for 90% success before moving onto the next level (despite the programme not doing that automatically) but is's blimmin brilliant.

I have no doubt that ds will be reading as a fluent 8yr old by the start of reception and there is a comprehension programme to follow that is currently being tested to address the fact that comprehension often can lag behind decoding (although HS does a good job with comprehension anyway).

anyone has any ideas, he is a visual learner tell him how to do something he won't understand at all but show him and he gets it and he is obsessed with computers and i would rather him put this to good use and learn something rather than play games all day

My dd's have Moshi Monster membership, most of its just fun (making monsters ect) but it includes lots of mini games which covers Maths, reading and dd1's favorite 'name the flag' (she knows all her flags after her map and flag obssesion).

Dd2 also likes to go on you-tube where they have videos of how to make things, she follows these far better than verbal instructions, she also loves cbeebies and nic jr. I'm sure there must be some sites for children who are visual learners.

pramsgalore4 · 21/05/2011 17:23

yes he goes on cbeebies nic jr moshi monsters club penguin but was looking for something differant if that makes sense,
sorry seem to have missed your message dont know how too many kids running about and talking to me, have just looked at it and i think it looks like it is american so not that keen, he is very quick to pick up american words eg tomato the american way, and they tend to use differant words to us eg mom so think this will just confuse him and be really anoying but thanks anyway

do to learn ?
mousetrial

pramsgalore4 · 21/05/2011 17:31

forgot to say he does not seem to get the grasp of reading will sound out the letters on their own but not try to put them together also he remembers words for a short time ie the bear is _ all the books at school he brings home are like this the first 3 words are the same on every page and then a word that you can work out from the pic so he will say each letter on their own then wait for you to say the first page then fly through the book repeating this, comes unstuck on last page as it is always slightly differant he does not reconise the words if writen down on their own, if that makes sense,

We have the same problem with everything being 'american' dd2 often speeks like Dora the explorer and it anoys me (no offence to the americans), it iss hard to find sites that are not amarican, even a lot of the PEC'S symbols available online are Amarican Sad.

bochead · 21/05/2011 19:25

mathletics, (UK version)

Starfall also American is often quoted we not tried to teach DS to read so can't advise if any good. My DS used to love poissonrouge it's very visually fun but beware DS now knows the French and Greek alphabet to add to his obsession with the English one. Some IPad flashcard apps where you can make your own cards and re record the American voice in your own. DS loves flashcards
