considering homeopathy for 11 year old DS with ADHD. Have tried ALL medications for ADHD over last 4 years and pulled him off them as can't bear side effects and make him so angry etc..

Anyone tried or had positive results with homeopathy? am seeing GP (homeopathy specialist) next week... have to be honest, am sceptical Hmm but worth trying? TIA

hmmm.....

I can empathise with wanting to help your child but IMO homeopathy is basically the ingredients for expensive wee.

There are therapies out there that may help...what have you tried (if anything)?

Have you heard of Retained Reflex Therapy and AIT?? They are more expensive than homeopathy though!!

Chundle · 18/05/2011 20:31

Try googling sunflower therapy I'm looking into it for my dd who has ADHD and you can apply for a bursary for it. It deals with retained reflexes and bits and bobs like that

Homeopathy had zero effect on my boy who has hyperactivity and autism and poss adhd. High strength fish oil maybe had slight effect. Aba teaching him minute by minut how to sit still, plus a trampoline were my best bets.

becaroooo... thanks. Haven't heard of RRT or AIT? (I'll google) have been considering neurofeedback though and hiring the kit to do it at home..

haven't really tried much to be honest.. up until now have been down orthodox medical route trying ritalin, concerta, strattera medications etc.. all of which have nasty side effects and actually make him worse.

He has a 'fiddle' thing which he carries around to lessons and the teachers let him use.. and we just struggle on. Running, cycling and swimming are great for him though, so we try to do as much as we can without exhausting him.

What about cranial osteopathy?? your thoughts??
Thx

We are getting my son a massive trampoline for his birthday next month (he uses my nephews one and loves it)

We have also been giving him high does omega 3 fish oil supplements for the last month or so (I am using eye Q which you can get a boots on the 3for2 deal which makes it a bit more affordable)

We are also going to INPP at chester (if you google it you can read up and even fill in an online questionairre if you want to) He is also starting AIT next weekend - its a 10 day listening/audio therapy.

If you google AIT you will get lots more info. I know some people have used the Sound Learning Centre in London but thats a bit far for me!

We are trying all these things because we
a) dont want to use medication if we can help it (due to the experiences you describe) and
b) its so non-invasive...RRT involves going for an assessment every 2 months and the child doing 3/4 mins exercises every day (the exercises change as you go along in the programme) AIT is also non invasive... the child listens to a cd for an hour a day for 10 days. Thats it.

Ds1 has only been on the fish oil for a month, we have only been doing the RRT for 8 weeks and we havent done the AIT yet BUT we are hopeful for the future.....

Good luck
xx

...we are also looking at getting ds1 a wobble cushion for school (amazon) but havent done that yet.

I do hope you didnt find my comment about homeopathy too flippant...its just that I really do think its hokum.....

tunbridgewellsmum · 19/05/2011 12:04

thanks.. no not flippant (made me laugh actually!) I'm kind of with you with the homeopathy, but feeling so desperate at the moment I'm willing to try anything..

up until now have never been able to get fish oils down him but going to give it another go.. he has developed a taste for salmon, but guess one portion per week is hardly enough ;-)

what's the wobble cushion for..??

Becaroooo · 19/05/2011 12:25

Its a cushion/pad to help kids who find it hard/painful to sit still at a desk/they can exercise with it too. I saw one on amazon.co.uk.

The Eye Q omega 3 oil ds1 has is vanilla flavour but you can get citrus too...would he have either of those? Ds1 hates it but I shovel it down Grin and make him hold his nose!

Tun I have researched homeopathy for my son who has a dx of ADHD (he's 8). Have a look at this article from the British Homeopathic Association magazine: www.britishhomeopathic.org/export/sites/bha_site/hh_article_bank/conditions_a_to_e/spring_2001.2_ADHD.pdf
She works out of the Royal London Homeopathic Hospital in Great Ormond Street. I never contacted them, as my ds hasn't gotten that bad so far ... but I would like to think I'd try it as an alternative to conventional meds

tunbridgewellsmum · 19/05/2011 12:43

thanks Madamesin (love your name btw!) interesting article..

ah I see what you mean by the wobble cushion... good idea! ds would have a field day with that .. i can see it being used as a frisbee... ;-)

he's totally refused to have fishoils before (even the flavoured ones) so we gave up as it was all too painful and traumatic.. however, he's a little older and a bit more willing to give things a try.. so will give it another go.

My DS (3.10) has ASC, have been giving him fish oils for about 2 months.
I really struggled to get it down him (tried loads) so went for the Boots Strawberry one as it is only 2.5ml and gave it by syringe. As he became more tolerant I tried the eye q smooth paste and managing to get that down him now (still by syringe). It is a tropical taste and not oily like the vanilla/citrus ones.

It seems to be making a slight difference. He doesn't have ADHD (as far as I know) but has reduced his stimming (running round) and have only seen him bounce on his little trampoline in living room a couple of times in the last few weeks. It may not be the fish oils but just in case it is I am continuing with it!!

MadameSin · 19/05/2011 15:30

Grin to wobble cushion ... was suggested for my ds but similar thoughts as you. Fiddle ball they gave him ended up as a missile Blush

Triggles · 19/05/2011 15:42

We put DS2's Omega 3 (liquid) in his morning orange juice (about half a small juice glass), as it's orange flavoured. It makes it look a bit milky, but we put it in a cup with a cover, and DS2 doesn't see what it looks like. LOL He just drinks it down.
