Dear all, my little one has developed really bad separtion anxiety when I take her to playschool, clinging and saying she doesn't want to go, I literally have to run out of the door. When I go to get her her she is fine and the helpers say she has been fine during the session. She attends two diff playschools and problem same at both. a couple of friends have same problem is it that she has just outgrown it ? Am worried at how she will react when she starts school in Sept, any tips or advice welcome x P.sShe will be 5 in October so one of the older ones at school.

Hi mumster. Could there have been an incident at one or other setting to have triggered this. What dies your DD say about why she is suddenly getting upset? Has she behaved like this before? Is there any change in circumstances at home? Does she have any SN?

Hi, not that i know of. She has only really developed this since I went in to Help and now she expects me to stay all the time. Have explained that the other mums only come in on odd occassions to help out and not in all the time. Don't think she has any special needs apart from being a bit ocd. I added message in this forum as had other threads about anxiety. Any ideas on how to prep them for school, worried that my worrying about her is a self fulfilling prophesy.

It sounds like pretty normal separation anxiety. You'll probably get better advice on the parenting threads, I don't have much experience of 'normal' development! Grin Not trying to put it down, it's obviously concerning you. You are the best one to know what's normal for your child. Do the nursery have any advice. I think lots of positive chat about how much fun school will be, not too much of 'you're a big girl, now.' She may be feeling anything but 'big.' Does she have friends starting? The school itself will be very used to settling in difficulties and should be able to reassure you, and give you some advice.
