Comm Paed....what ^can^ they dx???

Am confused/worried/frightened.

Ds1 has his comm paed appt on monday (GP referred him at my request back in Feb)

I am pretty sure ds1 has asd (dyspraxia and APD) and I was wondering if the comm paed could/would dx that?

ds1 has only just been put on school action (pretty pointless IMO and he gets no 1-1 atm) as he ha only been at the school since Nov last year.

Will ds1 need to see lots of other HCPs in order to get a dx? Will it be a long process?

sigh. I cant see me getting much sleep between now and monday.....

hi im not sure but take a look at this link:
www.walthamforest.gov.uk/index/care/childrenandfamilies/scs/com-scs-communitypaeds.htm

we saw a paed but at the hospital not community and they sent us to see other HCPs as well then the team get together to discuss so i dont know if they do it quite like that but others will have had experience with them im sure we has a peaediatric nurse come to us but as just a nurse not able to DX , whatever happens your being a good mum and trying to do the best for your DC so please try not to worry about monday as my mum used to say "it will all come out in the was" Smile

My son was diagnosed ASD by community paed last week but he had been assessed by educational psychologist as well and camhs has some crap camhs input along the way. I actually asked the community paed if she was a developmental paed and she said yes, and said the title has changed because they are more in the community! Smile

my girls were referred to OT by the paed. OT told me only they can diagnose dyspraxia

feynman · 16/05/2011 18:20

My sons paed told me only an OT can diagnose dyspraxia. Which is a problem as our OT'd won't see dyspraxic children, even for assessment only as they are so poorly staffed.

Becaroooo · 16/05/2011 18:52

feynman sigh. Its laughable really isnt it? Or it would be if it wasnt so serious Angry

Ds1 has no dx of anything atm but he is doing retained reflex therapy privately and they have used the terms "dyspraxia" and "APD" although they dont dx.

Just not at all sure what to expect next week.....it shouldnt be this hard to get our children the help they need, should it?
