can anyone tell me if severe SLI is a form of ASD, and does anyone have and experience of a child with severe SLI and come across any other problems that i might need to know of. iv been reading up on this and my mind is now totally boggled on what it is all about and what can come with it, for everything i have found talks about young children and pre school. my dd is 10 and only just been diagnosed which i know is very late on and very severe

technically severe SLI is separate from ASD, but can be part of ASD (asd is diagnosed by reference to a triad of impairments, of which the language/comunication forms a part). In reality, given severe SLI is likely to impact on social skills, behaviour, frustration etc there's probably quite a fine line between the two, so some of the strategies for kids with ASD may work for her.

You may find this research paper from one of the UKs leading researchers of some interest
What Causes Specific Language Impairment in Children? 2006
this is still cutting edge research, and the various aspects of issues on the autistic spectrum are still part of this ongoing medical research debate.
you could have a look at some of the research papers in my PubMed Specific Language Impairment (SLI) and PubMed Autism collections
