Treehouse school and the charity 'Ambitious about Autism' have put together and are trialling an ABA competencies framework, which will provide high quality training for people in the field to learn about and apply the principles of ABA to their practice.

This is for assistants. It's not the really high level stuff like an MSc or PhD or BCBA qualification that most people don't need anyway. It is grassroots training for people at the coalface (if I can mix my metaphors.)

Small scale at present but going very well and I think there is huge potential to roll out nationwide. It will transform the natiure of Specialist Education if so.

Learn more about it and the content of the course itself here.

It is a fabulous project Moondog, thanks for this link. It will help pull up standards in ABA, for instance for mums like me who have had to make up their own training programs for new tutors. It also gives new tutors a clearer career path in ABA. And, most importantly, it prevents the LA bods from refusing funding for ABA on the grounds that they don't believe in the tutors' expertise - as this gives a clear professional accreditation path.

One day the profession of Behaviour Analyst will be as normal and respected as that of Occupational Therapist - that's my hope anyway!

Lots of Trusts and LEAs fund staff to do ABA (including PBS) courses of studies. Mine fund plenty (they are both ace.)

Put in an FoI request to your lot to find out.

Oh I really like it! I think I can still do a fair bit of it, too.. but it will be useful for me to look at in terms of my own CPD.

Are there any courses linked to this kind of thing in the UK, Moondog - specifically in England? I simply can't manage going to Bangor and to be honest, at the moment what I need is a bit of CPD to keep my hand in not a whole course. Who keeps details of training out there?

I think you can do the Bangor course as distance learning, as I bumped into my old supervisor who was doing just that

moondog · 15/05/2011 23:42

That is indeed the case.
Lots of satellite links around the country.
Yorkshire, Jersey, London (Treehouse) and further afield in Dublin and Belfast.

Tonnes of places offer diplomas and certificates in PBS too as does our PCT.
That's a more daily living skills but heavily influenced by ACT philosophy application of ABA. Very hands on.It's fabulous.

BILD do a good overview
Tizard's course will undoubtedly be tiptop.
