What does a case officer do?

Having huge problems with MS school's treatment to my DS (ASD) and thinking of changing schools. Is this something I can talk to my case officer about in confidentiality? I have never had contact with him so not quite sure what their role is?

Bump. My DS is 15 and I have no idea and have never met one!

Is this the case officer who oversees the statementing process? Our case officer just dealt with the administration of DS's statement. She was useful as a point of contact in checking when reports had to be done, when the panel meetings are, etc, but they will have limited knowledge on individual schools.

You have the right to request a different school to be named on your child's statement, if it's at least a year since the current one was named. You can ask the name to be changed to another mainstream school but not to a special school. In theory, your request should be accepted even if the school is full, but you might have to push it to appeal.

I would do your own research in deciding which other local schools might suit your DS better. Ask other parents, local support organisations, and visit the school and be open about your child's issues.
