No, I don't actually. I have some exercises I am supposed to do with him to get him crossing his midline and to increase body awareness but he is so resistant to doing them that I don't. I just don't have the energy. He goes to a special thing like Tumbletots set up by the physios at the child development centre which encourages him to climb and crawl etc (except he prefers to trot about reciting poetry!!) and I try to encourage him to walk. The idea of making him do exercises every day makes me go all weak!

Oh, I was supposed to get him to do wheelbarrow walking to develop his trunk muscles but he just won't!

know what u mean, i wasthinking 'now where can i fit this in?' awful me. may take advantage of the low walls at harefield for balencing exercises lol.

Excellent idea Misdee - if ds thinks I am testing him in any way he totally backs off, but he likes walking on walls.

My DD has low muscle tone and hypermobility alongside dyspraxia. She was always falling off chairs when she was younger bless her ! I'm pretty sure she did actually dislocate her shoulder once when she was little but it popped back in almost immediately. And if she puts her arms out to either side the angle they go off is quite amazing My Mum spotted it pretty much straight away as she felt she was just too floppy. I didn't have a clue about these things and just thought it was normal. She never used to run away as a toddler as she was permantly attached to my hand or she'd fall over. The physio suggested swimming and trampolining, so we got a trampoline which she used loads. However she started getting trouble with her knees which the paed. felt was caused by the trampoline so she had to stop using it so much. As for the exercises the physio gave her, it turned into a battle ground so I gave up. The same happened when we had a lady in to do Brain Gym with her, she'd just about do it for the session but refused to even attempt anything with me inbetween.

And Aloha, can we have a seperate thread to have a whinge about dyspraxia related things as DD has just missed getting onto the toilet again and nearly fell over the buggy 3 times on the short walk to school this morning, which I know is very trivial in the scheme of things but.....!

faloling off the toilet eh, i have to stop myself laughing when dd2 doies it, as she looks so comical at times. bad mummy. she now tends to fall into the toilet and is safely wedged there so she doesnt fall off.

Hi Misdee,
In answer to your question for Mobility, we applied and have been told that from january when dylan is 3 we will be recieving higher rate mobility.
The reason for higher rate is that dylan can only walk a maximum of 6 steps and also the fact that he has splints. He can not get up or down the stairs, so we have to carry him to and from bed, the bath etc.. which is a real pain in the arse as he is getting heavier by the day!!!!!!!!
I dont know whether dylan will ever walk unaided but will probably have more of an idea next week when we get his results.
Dylan does not choke on food, but funnily enough that you have mentioned it over the past 2-3 weeks he has been choking an awful lot at meal times with both food and drink, so i will raise this issue at the appointment next week. In fact in all honesty now i think about it he has been doing it since i can remeber and i have just put it down to "oops, has it gone down the wrong way dylan???"
So deffo get it checked out.
Any way, better do some work!!
