It has been suggested we refer ds to tier 3. School are struggling even though we have a new sm in place. He is suspected As but because he has no dx they won't let someone in to do training or give them any tips. I am told that tier 3 is pretty intrusive into the family and would appreciate advice from anyone who has gone through this and what help was given. Thanks

No advice I am afraid but Dd3 is in the process of being moved to tier 3.

I will be watching with interest.

Hi. My ds has been in tier 3 CAMHS for many years. AFAIK, once the referral goes to CAMHS, the clinicians decide who needs to see your ds-whether that be tier2/3. You cannot refer to tier 3 yourself.
Who has suggested this to you? Usually, your GP or Peadiatrician will make the referral.
If your ds has complex needs, or needs long-term help, its quite possible he will go to tier 3. Im not sure from your post, who is seeing your ds at present/who suggested AS. Has your ds had an ADOS assessment, or other assesment for ASD? If not, CAMHS will probably do this.
The school are not doing all they can from your post. Under ASL Legislation, your ds,(for learning purposes), does NOT need a dx. The school are required to put in support for your ds to enable him to access the curriculum to his best ability-their intervention is in STAGES and if your ds is on stage 1 or above, you must be informed of what help he is entitled to.
So, although the school might not be bringing in specific Autism training just now, they must be providing adequate support for him. Insist they do this, and if you are not satisfied, write to the Head of your local LEA.

Tier 3 is not necessairly intrusive into family life. If your ds has not been seen by CAMHS before, they will take a full history of your ds development and his birth. Sometimes, Family Therapy is recommended, but not usually compulsory. It can be useful to discuss how your ds behaviour impacts on the rest of the family etc. Is there something in particular you are worried about? You could PM me if you like. HTH.

I have no idea on tiers ds sees the consultant psych after a direct referral from his paed. He has been offered CBT but I am wary because apparently the whole family will be involved Hmm Our CAMHS have such an appalling reputation that I really don't want too much input especially from people who I don't know their credentials.Ds is so fragile that with the wrong handling I could be picking up the pieces for the next twelve months.

Know what you mean ASDx2. Family therapy has been mentioned so maybe that is what they are planning.

We had tier 3 for a couple of years but have lost it now and are back fighting for tier 2 Sad

Dss saw an educational psychologist once a month for counselling / fact finding / no fucking idea really sessions. He was quite insightful as to why dss was feeling / behaving in a certain way but at a loss as to advise us how best to support him.

We were offered (when ed psych didn't get anywhere) sessions for dh and me with a mental health nurse to support us in supporting dss. Again once a month and again insightful and knowledgeable about why but no actual help other than "you're doing a good job"

And i'd be amazed if you can self refer though.
