Having made the decision to go ahead with assessment DD has asked me how she will be assessed and I have no idea.

What sort of assessments will there be? I'm assuming more than a couple of meetings/assessments? What sort of questions?

Okay, why don't you help her write a letter asking just that to whoever you have been referred to.

The one thing they won't ever be able to do is ignore the 'child's voice'.

I don't know how old your dd is, but I emailed our dx team the very same question as knew ds would 'have' to know. He is 8.
In our case ds was only aware of one assessment, the others were questionnaires to me when he wasn't present and observation by the dx team in school when he didn't know they were there.

The paed just asked my DS all the normal things

  • What school does he go to
  • Does he have any friends ( He answered I'm not sure - how would I know :) )
  • Does he like school
  • What's his favourite subject ( Maths because there's a wrong and a right answer)
  • What does he like to do outside school

Just stuff like that.....

She could also see how distressed he was getting by the whole thing...

An EP also observed him in class....... and asked him more perfectly normal things....

Then the paed saw him again 6 months later......

I think the paed will adjust the questions depending on your DDs answers, but will also ask you stuff, note her body language, get her observed in class, ask her teacher about her.......

But all of it will be perfectly normal questions that you would ask any kid.

we are going through assessment and as said above, its jst basic questions that any child would be asked.

what do you play in the playground - football
so you like football then? - no its rubbish, can i go home now :o

Crevix · 09/05/2011 18:12

that sounds like a DD response. single words and shrugs.

our first appointment went good with the talking Hmm

i mentioned that DD was close to our cat, saffy.

lady - oh, so you have a cat, whats she called
DD - saffy
lady - what colour is she?
DD - black
lady - do you only have one cat?
DD - no
lady - how many do you have?
DD - 2
lady - whats the other one called?
DD - penny

it went on for ages with one word answers. it was actually quite painful to watch it

WE have been taken right back to the baby times by CAMHS, they have spent a lot of time with Dp and me talking about our concerns. Dd3 has had a SALT and OT assessment and I have provided a diary.

Dd3 has had some one to one sessions with the mental health nurse and he has done some stuff with her on imagination.

Oh and all of those people have asked for questionairres from school!! Which has been our biggest problem because Dd3's old school have just kept saying there are no issues at school and therefore no issues.Full Stop

However as others have said it varies from place to place, I don't think there is a standard method of assessmentHmm.

Good luckSmile.
