ipad apps - can anyone recommend any good ones for profoundly autistic children?

I have just bought an ipad for my non-verbal ds who is asd. I read lots of great things about ipads and how wonderful they are for autistic children. I have downloaded some apps, but they are sooo American! We have been using things like ABA flashcards, which are great, but my ds keeps smiling and waiting for me to interpret the American words into English! Any recommendations for any apps would be gratefully recieved!

Have never sent a link before but found the above post helpful when I was looking for apps for ds (asd)

Seems to like "office jerk" the best at the moment though! Hmm

Indiegirlie - I listed a lot of apps that my dds use a while back - am on my phone so cannot link, but if you search my username + apps you should find a post I made a year or so ago.

Apocalypse - dd1 uses an ipad - she loves it. finds it easy to use, and has learned loads from it too.

My DS1 lives for his iPad. My brother bought one for him from the US a year ago and I was grateful but unconvinced it was necessary as we already had my iPhone and an iPod touch (which DS1 was v adept on). But no, he does see the iPad as something much more special.

Since discovering YouTube (and endless moshi monster/ annoying orange clips) he has veered away from apps but for a long time he adored many of the apps others have mentioned (especially tozzle!) as well as many others (will cast my mind back and write some down in a bit) including preschool adventure, fish school and oh yes, elmo's monster maker and the sesame street count game. As well as endless flashcard ones. And let me see, tappy tunes, peekaboo barn, kids songs, and whimsy is fab too.

They taught him SO, SO much, from receptive language to colours, shapes, numbers and letters. And all while he was having a whale of a time

the FirstWords app is good because you can record over the American voice with your own, or someone elses.
