tics in 8 year old-anyone with any experience?

My 8 year old started with tics about 18 months ago, first eye blinking, then spitting, then twitching his head. Now he has started facial grimacing. We were in Germany at the time of the first episode and the doctor was rather unsympathetic. Since then we have visited our GP once who said it was a passing phase.

His school are good and he is a happy and popular boy but I do fear that eack episode he has he gets worse.

Has anyone had experience of this or know what suport I can get. I am not worried and know this is not life threatening I just want to do the best for my boy .

Hi
My DS has tics/stims on and off all the time. For a while he would constantly clear his throat like it was blocked then moved on to constantly sucking/nibbling on his lower lip till it was really sore. Followed on by frowning and raising his eyebrows at a quick rate when you were talking to him or he was thinking. At the moment it has progressed to going in circles round and round when he is talking or being talked too. It changes all the time is really all I can say and is part of my ds aspergers.

My DS has tics which came on when he was about 8.The Paed said not to worry and that tics come and go. She was right. He is now 16 and they have come and gone many times. Many children have tics which disappear. I had a few myself when I was 11. (My DS has Aspergers.) Unless they are having a detrimental effect on his every day life or have an obvious cause such as stress (my DS was having a really hard time when they started) I wouldn't worry too much.

Has his stress level changed recently? When I was 9, I was put into a different school with much more rigorous academic standards, and I started with a number of facial ticks that became gradually better or worse depending on what was happening but was always there. As soon as I started secondary school it stopped all together and only returned briefly when I was doing my finals at uni. I remember doing it, but couldn't tell you why - other than that it 'felt right'.
