SN children

Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Wondering if it would be worth having a easy find or sticky thread of starting out in the world of SN

Easy access stuff that basically we all come across, from contact logs to DLA, or the obligitory ' you need wine' generic advice of things you may need to know but no-one has told you.

Just wondering if it may be an idea?

sounds like a good idea carrot. There is a small section for sn up there ^^ if you hover over bump to teens but it's not particularly comprehensive and unless you know it's there you probably won't find it. Maybe we could get a direct link at the top of the page and get that section updated? Just a thought.

'you need wine' Grin most definitely

I do always seem to be giving very similar advice to parents of newly DX DC and I've only been here a few months. But in some ways it can be more comforting to feel it's personally for you, more supportive? I also find I sometimes can't remember if the advice I give is what I think, myself, or just what I've read others say and find myself completely agreeing with. A sort of supportive plagiarism! [bublush] [bugrin] Hopefully they'll see that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Ohhhh ninja ive never clicked that link ..

Would be great to have it a bit more on show and updated with 'you need wine' :o

absolutely ellen, I think the personal bit is a must and needs to be continued, but a handy list of things you may need to know more on show, I think would be great.

there is a load of mumsnet introductory info to the bottom right of this page, which some of us also contributed to, could be useful?

Trouble is, we obviously don't look past the ends of our noses! I have browsed those links a bit, but maybe people prefer the human response, someone to précis it for them? (btw my phone put that accent on précis, not me!)

I had never noticed either of those areas with the links in! I think a sticky is a great idea.

Am loving this from Pagwatch on one of them though. Made me :o

"There is a stupid notion, oft-spouted in books and on television, that caring for a child with difficulties makes us special. As if one day we get a diagnosis and turn into some self-sacrificing, jolly mother earth who relishes meeting the needs of our 'special' child. Bollocks. We love our children and we get up everyday and do our best and gradually the good bits seem brighter and the hard bits seem easier to manage." Pagwatch
