My ds has been awarded middle rate care and lower rate mobility, he is 7 and has autism.
Do you think it is worth asking them to look at his claim again as we put on the form that we are up constantly through the night with him and one of us sleeps on a mattress in his room because our bathroom is downstairs so it is a nightmare, when he wakes he needs supervision.
The award letter says we have been awarded middle rate because he needs attention right through the day. No mention of the night time, would you bother or is the middle rate the right one?

well that's exactly the point the dla lady was trying to make, I thought just being up constantly with him would be enough but maybe not?
We do have to help him at the toilet and like you said there's the cooker etc but he isn't given the chance because we are with him?

yes he would try to go out and I did mention that but she was just poo pooing everything I said!
do you know, it's not even about the money, it's just that he needs support through the night and it's that simple.
I have friends with NT children the same age and they all sleep through the night.

whatever17, i did it myself.3 people were on the panel and i found that they were quite sympathetic listeners. We are also off to tribunal in june to try and get my ds into a mainstream school with IR unit instead of the ss the lea want to send him to!!

ach nevermind the same age, DD slept through the night from 4 weeks old, lol, ok I know that's early, but still...

I would have thought getting him back to sleep would have counted as care through the night, I know getting DS off to sleep to start with didn't, but to be fair once he's asleep he stays asleep.

Seeing as it doesn't, I think you need to mention the help with toiletting and awareness of dangers and what he might do if you weren't there...the same as when talking about why he needs supervising through the day.

I mean it's not like he has autism in daylight hours only, which is what they seem to be implying, lol

i have 10 year old ds with ASD and dyspraxia and get middle rate care for him despite him getting up for the day anytime after 3am despite medication to help him sleep. he needs supervision from this time which is hard, normally i bring him down to the living room and put the tv on for him while i doze on the sofa. doesnt help that dd1 has AS and also has sleep issues, she is a tremendously light sleeper and because she fidgets constantly she often wakes herself up and is unable to self settle so i have to go and see to her. normally i would kip during the day while they are at school but cant today as dd2 is home with a tummy ache.
