Aspergers and soiling

I hope someone can offer some advice. We really don't know what to do with DS (7) regarding soiling. He potty trained fine and had no problems until recently. He is soiling himself at school. He denies all knowledge of it, despite the smell. The only thing we can link it with is that he said that the fire alarm went off when he was in the toilet once and he didn't like it. He says that he is busy doing things and forgets to go, or that the teachers don't let him (which we know isn't true).

Is this normal for AS and what can we do?

Hi Willow. It's been a constant problem for my DS who is 11 now. This thread might be useful but if it's a recent thing hopefully it will stop as soon as it started.

impaction can cause this type of leakage/ soiling. possible? might be to do with avoidance, but might not.

ds1 is 9 and soils/ wets regularly. jury still out on aspergers/asd/ adhd/odd etc etc...

either way, toileting routine outside of school v important.

there are loads of poo threads at the mo. Grin

Movicol and lactulose were the only things to help ds2 (hfa/adhd) - if we keep on top of things then he's not constipated so there's no leakage, soiling or smearing - I try and keep a close eye on him. If he's a bit constipated he's normally more unco-operative and a bit out of sorts. You could always keep a poo diary in case it is related to things like you mention (fire alarm etc) x

Forgot about constipation! Dur! Very common cause of soiling. My DS isn't constipated at all, it's a lack of sensing issue with him. (It's all me me me.)

I am sure I seem to be (ahem) 'pushing' Poo goes home to Pooland (have posted it on TWO threads tonight) but am about to start potty training my ASD 3 year old, who has got a few 'go away mummy' issues, this weekend and I was highly reccomended this publication but found it an utter nightmare to get hold of. So am v pleased it seems to be freely available

My son has always wet, soiled and smeared. I had finally insisted on more tests including an xray after several years of professionals insisting there could not be a blockage or any other medical cause.

He has never shown any sign of constipation and has pooed 10 times a day from birth but despite this the xray last week showed fecal impaction and he has been put on movicol.

Please dont let doctors tell you otherwise as you obviously can be blocked up and have little of no sensation without showing any constipation as he has never had a solid poo in his life.

I work for a charity (PromoCon) that provides advice and info for all kinds of toileting problems - particularly in children with special needs (I am a specialist paediatric nurse) we have a web site where you can download booklets etc for free and a helpline www.promocon.co.uk 0161 834 2001 :-)
