Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

DO YOU LIVE IN BIRMINGHAM AND HAVE A DC WITH SN?

If so want to meet up with me?

I am lonely, in my situation of being a lone parent, with an SN, DS.

I hope that meeting other Mothers in the same situation might be the answer.

I can try...

I can't help in that way (South East) but I won't ignore or flame you Smile

Met one of my best friends at a centre for children with disabilities, the boys started pre-school together and now she only lives around the corner. It's great to have that support and not to have to keep explaining when DS does something other people would consider odd.

Are there any groups you can get to? Tough I know especially if you don't drive. Or maybe look on your Mumsnet local?

All the best x

Don't worry, you won't be flamed or deleted for asking for friendship and support.

I found details online of a SN soft play session that runs regularly in Rubery. It seems to be linked to a support charity for anybody in Birmingham who has a SN child and is in need of help, support and friendship. I wasn't sure if it would be ok to post it on a thread, so have pm'd you the details.

There will almost definitely be more SN soft play sessions at similar organisations in the area. Our council gym runs SN soft-play and swim sessions, so there might be something similar near you - might be worth either checking out your local council's website or even given them a call. Your health visitor would be another point of contact for knowing about SN support groups.

It can be a lonely place having a child with SN. As well as looking for some rl friends, stick around the MN SN board, we're a friendly bunch. Smile

Which part of Birmingham are you? (if you don't mind saying). If you don't want so say, feel free to send me a pm.

There is an organisation called "Kids" which runs various groups for children with, and parents of children with special needs which I know runs in the South West of the city, but may run all over the city.

How old is your ds? Have you spoken to your nearest children's centre? They may run some groups, or may know the best ones in the area.

YouaretooniceNot - below are the contact details for "Kids" in the West Midlands. Unfortunately, as you ds is over 5, you won't be able to access the services at children's centres. I would definitely have a look at the website for Kids and see if there are any groups in your area. They are very knowledgeable, and also have holiday schemes etc. if you ever felt the need.

The other thing to do is to keep an eye on the "meet up" threads to see when there is a Birmingham meet up and get yourself along to that.

We are in Birmingham, not in the same situation as I have a DH but we have 3 boys 8,6&2 . DS2 has ASD. We are in Great Barr but could still meet up if you'd like. Send me a message :)
