I thought it might be useful just to have a general tried and tested thread to share our experience about things that have been useful /waste of money:

Hit

Baa baa blackout blinds - the complete darkness really seems to have helped ds sleep problems settle (more than melatonin ever did)

Miss

waterproof sheets that are just waterproof on the top- the pee just leaks down the side when ds wiggles about at night.

Thanks Marne Smile The one we have is massive, and studded for extra-stimulation (ooh-er) He has only recently had access to it since it's been in the garage all winter so I'll have to make more of an effort to leap about with him I think!

Hits

Trampoline
Weighted Vest - he copes much better with preschool now.
Bubble Timers - he loves looking at them all and has a massive collection. They really calm him down when he is stressed
Scooter - Not SN toy as such but he really loves his Puky scooter and its really helped with his co-ordination and motor skills.
Anything with Mt Tumble in it - When I tried to teach his signs he looked at me like an idiot. Now he can sign for himself as Mr Tumble has taught him and its really helped him get his needs accross.

Misses

Peanut ball - he hates it and now DH uses it in the gym.
Chewy Tubes - he loves chewing stuff but wouldnt let this go anywhere near his mouth.

Ordered my Baa Baa blind on saturday and its been delivered today. Really hoping it can help now the nights are lighter.

1980Sport · 11/04/2011 11:30

We're picking our two up today Mario! :)

DS2's room currently has a black out roller blind (crap) verticals, curtains and three beach towels hanging up so hoping it'll look a bit tidier by tonight!!

Eggcelentexampleofmumoneggs · 11/04/2011 11:47

where did you buy your blinds ladies?

MarioandLuigi · 11/04/2011 11:48

I ordered mine from Amazon - think I paid just under £25.00

1980Sport · 11/04/2011 12:15

There was one left on one of the amazon stores for £18 and then 21.99 on allyourbabyneeds.co.uk - our local independent baby shop priced matched 21.99 for us for two!

Eggcelentexampleofmumoneggs · 11/04/2011 12:23

1980 thats great price :)

1980Sport · 11/04/2011 12:35

21.99 each now not 21.99 for two!! Just re-read that that would've been good! There was def one on amazon for 18.00 but they didn't deliver here :(

Hit: Doidy cup. Easier to feed liquids because they can get their face into it better. Handles are easy to grab, and a fairly big hand movement produces a small movement of the liquid.

CinnamonPretzel · 15/04/2011 11:55

Glow stars/planets on the walls & ceiling, along with a black light.
DS has a midi bed so the Black Light it at a lower level (as DC aren't supposed to look directly at them).
Not too bright and stops DS getting scared. :)

We've also invested in the trampoline based on everyones opinion, although still need to put it up Blush

Becaroooo · 15/04/2011 12:12

can you tell me where i can get a wobble cushion from please?

HelensMelons · 15/04/2011 14:42

I just got mine (for ds2 but think all the dc's will use it!) this morning Becaroo, I got it threw amazon - the delivery docket though is from Patterson Medical Ltd, tel 08444124330 (they are in Nottinghamshire). It was about £30 and then I pd postage and packaging also. It's lovely though!!

You don't happen to know the best place to buy a weighted lap pad? I've checked ebay/amazon, etc but not sure which is the best or if there is any difference really!?

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 04/08/2011 12:16

Thought I'd revive this as it's hard to find but really quite useful.

BrigadeOfLannisters · 04/08/2011 12:34

Thank you Smile

I was on this as FlaminGreatGallah. I had forgotten how much I liked that name and Baby Jogger pushchairs outs self as Pram Hun

Wonder if HQ might consider a SN classics section or having some threads pinned...

Could someone on here recommend a good place to buy chewy tubes, please!

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 04/08/2011 20:23

Quick google came up with www.sensorytoywarehouse.com/product.asp?strParents=&CAT_ID=&P_ID=599 in the UK but I don't know if you can get them cheaper elsewhere.

negligentmummy · 04/08/2011 20:48

just bought the cutlery and mealtimes are a huge mess here- hope they work!!

Marne · 04/08/2011 21:31

Hits:
chewy necklace

vibrating dog

vibrating teather

hazeyjane · 05/08/2011 08:23

thankyou for the link, I had a google too, and realised Kapitex do them, and I have ordered stuff from them before.

Can I recommend something that isn't a SN product, but very useful for hefting around a big 1 year old with low muscle tone, the Baba Sling is fantastic.
