flushable baby wipes

DS's school sent a note home asking for "disposable wipes" - I have always sent in either johnsons or Simple, so I just sent another pack. They were returned with a note that they want ones that can be flushed.

We've tried Kandoo, and some own brand ones before but they don't suit ds (make his botty sore!). Anyone know of any fragrance free/hypoallergenic ones that don't cost a bomb (school use loads!)

We use morrisons or asda unperfumed kids toilet wipes, they are less than £1 and don't make Dd3's bottie sore at all.Grin.

Lidl do some too not kids but even cheaper and again unperfumed.

I tried Lidl before but they weren't great so I will have a look at morrisons, but don't usually go there so they will have to wait until after the holidays.

I don't know why they suddenly want these - and no explanation given - so I will ask why - after all they have special bins to get rid of his pads so I don't really understand why the wipes can't go in too; unless they want him to do it himself.

Thanks zzzzz; thats worth knowing for home - maybe not school because they get through them so quickly.

I have visions of the TA's clogging up the loos if they want everyone to send in flushable wipes (it's a special school so lots in pads).

We use asda kids toilet wipes ( blue one) and DS is fine with those. He can't have Johnsons or many others due to the reaction he gets on his bot. x

Thanks shaz.

Ive asked why they suddenly want us to change to flushables otherwise I will be spending the holidays visiting various supermarkets and testing different brands!

Kandoos are definately NOT flushable. Learnt from experience. I know they say it on the packet but there was a big thing on the telly a while back saying they are not biodegrading (I think it was a watchdog programme). Used them on DD and so did a woman few doors down from me. Few weeks or so goes by and hey ho our drains outside are not clearing just backing up. Cameras etc went down by specialist the second time it happened. Turns out hundreds of kandoo wipes were wrapped around tree roots and not rotting away as supposed to happen.

We always used php flushable baby wipes with the boys.

They're not cheap, but you get 100 in a pack, they are quite big compared with normal wipes, or at least they used to be (haven't used them for a couple of years, so they could have changed) and are wetter than most other wipes, which makes cleaning easier.

I did find these on Wilkos website that are much cheaper, but obviously I can't vouch for how good they are.

Quite a few to choose from here.

I love a good google! Wink

Hi, we use some fragarance free ones from Home Bargains, cheap, cheerful and do the job with no irritation - have a look they have quite a few different ones there.

wraith · 07/04/2011 21:49

the wilkos ones are pretty good i use them on occasion

starfishmummy · 07/04/2011 22:46

So i have had a note back from school. It is not some new health and safety regulation or anything, just the tas trying to "save the planet"! and they will carry on with the old ones.

OP posts:
moosemama · 07/04/2011 22:52

If they want to save the planet, surely they should have asked for biodegradable wipes, not flushable ones. Confused

starfishmummy · 07/04/2011 23:19

moose - they actually asked for "disposable" wipes! Which is what I thought I'd sent (just normal wipes) but they were returned with the explanation that they wanted flushable ones.......
I might suggest that old "favourite" - loo paper!
