Little bit of background:

DD is 4.5, currently at special needs nursery, staying for receptionn year so will be going to special needs primary in sept 2012. She has athetoid quad CP and is currently non verbal but can babble, say random words and use makaton.

She has a statement and we have just had her annual review.

DH and I want to complain about SALT provision. The nursery is fab and does SALT every day and we have NO problems with them, its the actual speech therapist we have problems with.

Last summer the therapist assigned to the school resigned and we have a "stand in" who i think is becoming permanant. The last time we saw her was Nov/Dec last year for maybe 20 mins. I have had no summary of that meeting where it was decided we would apply to ACE.

I had a phone call from her in Jan to say that she was working on the referral form but it was taking some time (which i have doubts about as i think i have found the referral form myself).
That is the total amount of communication we have had from her and im not happy.

I want to be able to say that she is not meeting the provision set out in the statement but (stupidly and naively) we never questioned the provision in the statement as were happy with it at the time.

My question is, who am i best speaking to about this? Should i talk to the school first and see what they recommend? (The school is fab and i have no complaints about them). or should i speak to someone like IPSEA?

I am quite happy to copy what is written in her statement if needs be.

It wsa noted in the annual review summary that we werent happy with provision but i want to push this further as i feel we are running out of time.

(dont know if its important but i know that this particular therapist has been banned from working at another local special school Confused)

I would speek to the school first and see if anything is done, they may be able to give the SALT a bit of a push (get her motivated), point out that the statement is not being met. You could also give your 'case worker' a ring (i have done this when dd's statement has not been met) and they might be able to do something.
