stimming

This is possibly a dim question, I never thought DS1 stimmed, however after reading Tony Attwood I realised that his monotonous whistle is a stim - he does it more and more if he is unsure about situations, bored etc etc. He has never really had a movement stim though.

DS2, who is due to be assessed for ASD in September, often if made to sit still (or if he gets excited) will start making a shriek noise and waving his hands in front of his face - always the same movement, or he gets pieces of paper and throws them in front of his face. Is this likely to be stimming?

Sounds exactly like stimming to me. My DS jumps up and down and flaps fit to take off, and runs back and forth in the hall. The jumping is when he's excited or happy. He twiddles his hair into a little spike and used to get bald patches from twiddling too much, which is his main stim.

Yes, sounds like stimming.

Ds2 flaps his hands like a hummingbird when he stims, and makes what I call his autistic noise as well.

The stimming noises can also be a bit like tourettes, I once thought DS2 may have it, but his paed said it is normal with people with ASD. His favourite stimming word used to be boobies Hmm

Thanks! Hmmm, shrieks are often interrupted by random shouts of "Poo poo", and he does love running around in circles too.

I didn't know until yesterday that words were sometimes stims, we've had loads of words that were repeated alot. He also likes to repeat big chunks of programes he's watched is that stimming? :)
