Are sugar cravings a part of Autism>?

Ds1 is a healthy weight and is given a reasonably healthy diet - a little low on fruit but he won't eat it and I can't force him.

But this past week, he's been more 'autistic' than usual - angsty and temperamental. And he's been stealing food.

Now, he's always stolen food, always sweet stuff, so I try not to have it in the house. But he has eaten a whole container of sweeteners.

Obviously he's going to have the shits. But why is he doing this?

Mine used to, up to being around 8. Many weird and wonderful items were consumed with the only link being sweetness. There was never a problem with D & V, just a lack of baking ingredients in my kitchen.
Don't know about sweeteners...I found the easiest way was just to not have sweet things in the house until he grew out of it or developed more self-control.

Oh, and in his more Aspie periods, the consumption went up dramatically, along with all the other behaviours.
He's a strapping lad now with no weight issues.

he's very 'much' this week. i don't know why. He's very dittery and destructive.

When Ds2 is "more autistic" than normal, he craves milk, he can drink 6 pints of the stuff a day if I let him. I can always tell if he is going to be worse than normal as he wants milk and milk products.

It's one of those 'grit your teeth and keep going' periods?
Do you know why he's stressing? Sometimes it's very hard to spot the triggers and you just have to wade on up the creek.

When DD is "more autistic" than normal it is usually because she is about to be sick / come down with something (she was a bear with a sore head all week and has fever / cold now at the weekend).
She always sticks stuff in her mouth (sensory-seeking) and if I leave sweet things around she will certainly go for those over and above anything else.

ds2 is intolerant of some foods, these are also the foods he craves & the foods that increase his autistic behaviours.
I have read that this is because these are the foods that his body isn't able to process properly, I can't remember where i read it but it was a proper published medical report.

I have been considering using naet treatment to improve his bodies ability to process the foods & hopefully improve his autism, reflux & constipation... I just need to take the plunge & give it a go.

I dunno about the sugar but we're coming up to the end of term - it's showing here. I might pick him up at lunchtime for a couple of days next week.

I'm sure we have a doctor's appointment Wink or something..

My DS consumes frightening amounts of sugar at times, it makes him hyper. That's why we got the trampoline...

All my Dd's crave sweet stuff all the time, over the years it has been hard to stop them from having too much.

Dd1 was the worst she was very food sensitive but always wanted the stuff that made her either hyper or ill.

She and Dd2 have stolen sweet stuff over the years now we hide it.

Dd3 will take stuff from the fridge if it is open but would not open it or take the whole packet like the others.

Don't know the answers, we have just found better hiding places.

I do get really cross with them but it doesn't workHmm.

Ds2 was intolerant to milk and dairy. The more he wanted it the worse it made him, the more he wanted it.
I pulled it when he was only drinking milk and eating crap.
He is much better gfcf .
