Obviously I can't say too much because this happened at work but we have a little boy with very limited language possibly due to ASD, he is being assessed. We have been having difficulty with signs as he has really poor eye contact.

We started introduing the MAKATON pictures this week at snack time and today we had crisps and apple on the table, his key worker showed him the pictures and said "crisps or apple" he picked up the picture of crisps pointed to it and said "crisps"

We were so excited and gave him loads of praise. He repeated it about 6 times and was really pleased with the result.

Obviously I realise that crisps are maybe not the best motivator but it was sooo lovely. One member of staff was nearly reduced to tearsSmile.

After snack we showed him the picture of a coat and he went and stood by his coat peg.

Talk about major breakthrough in communication. I am soo happy and glad I spent half the day on Sunday cutting and laminating the pictures.

Crisps and chocolate biscuits are definately the best motivators because they really want them but can take or leave an apple. :)
