First thing to try for concentration is Omega Fish Oil.

Secondly, is his IEP any good? What are his targets? What help will school be giving him to meet them? etc, etc.

Does he have sensory problesms? Ie does he find the classroom too noisy (or even too smelly)?

Does he concentrate well at home? Does he concentrate well with 1:1?

Lastly, what support does he receive in school? School work should never be too hard. Even if he can't keep up with the bottom table he needs to be given suitably differentiated work....

Does he feel the moved table is like a punishment? I'm sure the school have moved him to somewhere with less distractions but it has to be handled sensitively or it can be upsetting. If he is the only one sat alone and he doesn't like it, it might not have the desired effect of helping him concentrate.

It's a pretty normal action to take for DC who struggle with sensory overload in class. (We have one in our class for children who are finding it hard to concentrate, but it's for any child, not one child.) But they definitely are used for DC with concentration/sensory issues. If schools use Teacch system (a commonly used system for promoting independent working in DC with ASD) an individual workstation is used.
