bath seat for 9 month old?

ds is 9 months old and unable to sit or hold himself up, he is under investigation.

I am struggling to bath him, as he is quite big, hates lying in the bath, but my back is suffering from trying to hold him up.

All the baby seats I see seem to be for much smaller babies, does anyone know of something suitable for a 20lb-ish 9 month old?!

something like this might make him feel a bit more secure about lying down, or just might make it easier for you to hold him up.

Or how about this? If he can't sit up unsupported you'll obviously need to give him a hand, but I just don't think they make reclining bath seats that go big enough for you! He's at a bit of an awkward age, between baby stuff and the special equipment designed for older children who can't sit up...

Hi there

We have been using a r82 penguin bath seat since about 10 months with DS who has similar issues to your son. It was a good size for him and goes up to 20kg (there is a bit you can move as baby gets bigger).

It came through our OT and is the best bit of equipment we have, bath time is one of our only "normal" and entirely fun cares! Good luck

DS had something through OT. Just be aware that some of their stuff will require an awful lot of water in the bath - ds couldn't sit at all and we had something a bit like a sun lounger so most of him was above the water in the bath. One thing we did, was that once a week he and his Dad had a bath together so that DS could experience being in the water and having a splash around (sometimes he went in with me but Dad was better at holding him when he got bigger).

My dd now has a fantastic new shower chair from ot bereau and has gone through a vast aray over the years. From bath seats to bath lift to shower chair.I would certainly speak to ot about it and sooner rather than later as with all these things it takes time and you need to protect your back.

thankyou everyone.

we tried him in something like the babyway seat but he just slumps in it.

We have our first physio and OT meeting in a couple of weeks, so maybe they will suggest something (can you hire stuff? this is all a bit daunting and new!)

Stupidly I hadn't even thought about getting in with him, but with 2 other dcs this may be tricky.

He really loves being in the water, but he just ends up having a quick dunk, before my back starts hurting, so it would be great if we could sort something out.

You don't have to hirer it from the ot they either buy new or you loan it from the loan equipment store then when you no longer need it or the child has grown out of it you send it back.Of course you arange before hand what you need next so you are not without anything.hth

Yep, i just got in with ds2 not nice when they poo or wee in the bath though.
Speak to the OT. We had a big sponge wedge for the bath, it was great. ds2 had no head control so liked to lay down though
