Is this a feature of Aspergers? Is this just my son? Is this managable?

the amount of times I squawk "Stop nagging me, I'm doing it!" at my son....

Hand signals that mean 'Don't say anything, I heard you'
Timer, I'll do it when...'
Consequences 'If you ask me again, I won't...'
Always doing something I'd said I would, or being clear about why not.

I just thought of as many ways as I could to cut down on the mithering.

Oh yes.

Mine can't trust you to just do something. DD2 just talks at you whether you are listening or not and keeps going and going and going and going.......

colditz · 28/03/2011 08:01

I need more patience Sad

I just HATE being nagged. Standing in the kitchen trying to cook and all I get is "Can I go on the computer? When can I go on the computer? How long until I can go on the computer MUM I NEED to go on the computer I NEED to, why can't I go on the computer when you're cooking? Why do I have to share it with my brother?"

And on......

"Mine can't trust you to just do something".

that is exactly it!

I've also squawked "Will you please just have some faith, I am thirty years old and I know what time you have to be at school!"

Grin Good morning everyone!
WhoWhoWhoWho · 28/03/2011 08:09

Ahh yes I could be heard no doubt right up the street yesterday as I snapped and said I'm ALREADY DOING IT Blush

The one that irks me most is "look mummy, mummy look at this, mummy you must look, are you looking mummy" usually at a still frame of a dvd I too now know all the words to. Sigh.

I'm naturally impatient too so that doesn't help.

sumum · 28/03/2011 10:59

Grin Grin Grin have you all got clones of my ds?

He say's 'glue your eyes on this' when he wants me to look at something. And he goes on and on and on and on till I cave in or lose it.Blush

Can't say they don't have stamina

Ineedalife · 28/03/2011 12:51

Yep... and Dd3 gets louder and louder each time she asks me the same thing. Especially if I am on the phone!!!

moid · 28/03/2011 16:22

"I will be there in a second", get there before he asks again, then say that was very patient of you waiting for me. Leave because you have do something in kitchen, return before he asks and then praise for being patient...

Repeat ad nauseum.... Grin

MADABOUTTHEBOY2000 · 28/03/2011 16:28

see i never learn i always say in a minute and then whilst cooking or doing something im trying to concentrate on or im on the phone he loudly counts me down from 60 then screams if im not readyBlush

bullet234 · 28/03/2011 16:48

Ds1 has ASD and I've found with him that giving him concrete times rather than saying "in a minute" means he'll be more patient.
However, in the interests of full disclosure DH would say that I don't have much patience when I ask him to do something. Ironically I have lots more with the lads, though in a way employing military precision does come in handy in the mornings Grin.
