May have to move to another part of thr country for work. Ds has a sm - what will happen to this? Do we just have to name another school? Any advice greatly appreciated.

I think your poor DS will have to be assessed again in the new LA. Hopefully they'd honour the old statement in the meantime, but I think it's more complicated than just naming the new school. Hopefully someone with experience of it will know.

I was about to start a thread about this myself. Our DS is nearly 16 and we are seriously thinking about moving out of our LEA, although we always thought it would be madness and we didn't dare risk it. I'm wondering now if we need to be so cautious, especially as he is coming up to "adulthood" as I don't understand the funding from then on.

If you have to move for work then it sounds like you don't have much choice. I understood that a new Authority HAD to honour the existing statement but only until it is reviewed, but how can they if a change of school is necessary? Sorry I'm not able to help but I'll watch the thread.

hi we moved county a couple of years ago, the statement will still stand until the lea have an idea of childs needs and if they need to change it. the new lea might have other things to offer that isn't written on the old statement that could help your children. the new statement isn't an overnight change it took our lea a year. but in the meantime had to honour old statement hope this helps

Thanks all.
Davidsotherhalf - did you have any trouble getting the school you wanted? Ds does not need ss and we are looking to move to an area with good ms school so hoping it will be straightforward.

the first thing to do is phone new lea tell the education in area that your moving to about a month before if possible, and ask them to send you school list in that area. tell the lea in writing and use registered post naming school you want for your child. they should sort it out so the child can start asap.
