final statement deadline missed

The school named on the statement knocked my lad back - that's the reason for the delay. The proposed statement wasn't specified or quantified so the lea had agreed to redo parts 2 & 3 before it was finalised anyway.

As you all know my son is currently in a temp pru type thing miles away after his last school kicked him out. I really need him back in a proper school so I can sort the childcare to return to work asap, (lone parent).

Other than the lea ombudsman, which sounds a long winded body, do I have anyway of getting the lea to get a shimby on? It's mainstream with SALT, OT & 1:1 TA + support at break times he needs. However there is a real issue with roll numbers in my neck of the woods after a primary school was closed last year for failing. The local schools are all bursting at the seams.

i was in the same situation with my dd, was told dd wasn't entitled to any education and i had to fight, they put her in a pru even though camhs told them it wasn't the place for dd. she only attended 4hrs a week, and they couldn't meet her needs and kicked her out. we had to go to the ombudsman to start the ball rolling, as soon as the lea get a letter from ombudsman they get stuff moving, it might take a few weeks for a letter to go out but it's worth it, it took nearly a year to get the meeting with ombudsman and lea, but we won for educations mistakes but nothing can be done about the 27 failings that the ombudsman found with school and pru as the school only has to answer to governors and they are always on the schools side. have you contacted parent partnership? as they helped us

If you tell the Ombudsman service when you ring your child is out of school and you need urgent placement to be able to go back to work they should fasttrack it.
Sometimes just an email from Ombudsman to Council saying they are looking into it is enough to get the Council moving as they don't want the hassle of wading through Ombudsman paperwork as well.
It doesn't always work but worth getting the ball rolling just in case it does

I'm seriously starting to onder if the authorities just wanna delay till he can be passed onto the next team (ie problem identified at 4 - aged out of early years help, wins right to statement - too much effort for school so kick him out, have him faffing around now as no school place available till . . . . .)

Childhood is too short to be constantly waiting for a tomorrow that never comes, we've already lost key stage 1 of his education. There's a serious lack of accountability in the "system". Always the excuses & delays - I'm so sick of them!!!!!

Does seeing your Mp make any difference?

our mp is useless wouldn't even see me with evidence of failings. my dd missed her gcse's but mp couldn't be bothered to help. he refered me to local councilor and he just kept breaking appointments and telling me lies about why he didn't keep appointments.he only broke 8 appointments.

ahh but i threatened to sue and wrote to the education minister my local councilor and local mp bombarded them all ,had a reply from them that they would look into it but within 2 weeks i got a call giving me what i wanted from lea so i think its worth a go perhaps depends if your local mp drinks a LOT of horlicks or not lol

I did a complaint on the DCSF website when our LEA missed the deadline and it really seemed to make them jump into action. Good luck.
