While waiting for dx of dyspaxia

I've just recently asked for my ds to be refered for a dyspaxia test though LA parent support and after parents evening his teacher also agree's he may have it.

I know that we have a long wait ahead of us so is is sensible to try things while we are waiting that may help him, or could they affect his diagnosis?

We have just started fish oils, and I am trying to help ds(8) with handwriting, just basic joined patterns and keeping letters on line at moment.

Would really like to help in other area's too but worry about overloading him, especially if he doesn't have dyspaxia or if doing extra "training" would affect his diagnosis.

What have/would you do?

Me and my dd(7) have dyspraxia. Goto the dyspraxia foundation website and they will give you loads of helpful advice and support.
Writing out routines really helps us and turning the paper 45 degrees anti-clockwise if right handed makes writing much easier.

Firstly, don't worry about effecting his dx. If by some miracle you manage to improve him to the point where he doesn't meet the criteria - that's great!

Secondly, what symptoms bother you the most?

In short what you need to do is:

  • Identify his biggest problem
  • Decide what you want to do about it
  • Start doing that
  • Wait a while
  • Assess if it worked
  • Repeat
Grin

So give us some ideas of his problems, and we can help you....

Fish Oils is a great place to start BTW.

Main problems are

handwriting
Co-ordination
Organisation of thoughts

He enjoys writing stories and I wondered if maybe there are things online for kids about structuring stories which he may enjoy and find helpful with organisation.
