Anyone know anything about west of England school for blind?

Just that really!!

Dss has been offered a place at the above for secondary, rather than mainstream. He has CP, in a wheelchair and registered blind, though not totally.

DH has always hoped he'd go mainstream, but today found out he'll most likely go here. We were hoping that someone would be able to tell us what it is like etc.

TIA.

Someone who worked for us over the summer (direct payments) had a placement there last year (she's a trainee SALT) she said it was brilliant and I trust her opinion (this is the one in Exeter right?)

Yes, it's in Exeter.
Are you in Devon? Any other experience of SN secondary in the area?

My mum was a portage visitor to a little boy who was blind. He went on to attend this school and has had a wonderful and productive time there. I have heard excellent reports through his parents, about this school.

I'm in P{lymouth littlerach. Ds1 goes to an excellent SLD/PMLD school- I can tell you about the Plymouth schools, but not much else. Are you in Devon?

Thanks all of you. Encouraging reports there.

No, we live in wiltshire, but Dss lives in Devon. He has had a terrible time in a childrens respite centre recently that has made him anxious about anything else which is SN. He has been to mainstream primary but has been advised that because of his complex needs, mainstream wouldn't be a good choice for secondary. Also for his older sister who is at the secondary, better for her to have some identity of her own, IYSWIM.

He is due to start next September and it was only yesterday that his mum really brought the subject up, I guess the whole family have always wanted him to be as "normal" as poss.

I really think this would be the best solution, as hopefully he'll be offered respite there too, which will be a huge relief.

DH said straight away, "get on MN and find out what they say about it!!!"
