hypermobility - can it cause pain in hands & elbows??

we discovered recently that DD (3, s&l delay, suspected ASD) has hypermobile joints. her feet are also very flat.

for quite a while DD has been showing her hands and elbows saying there is pain. occasionally she does this also for her feet. as DD has quite a s&l delay she won't be able to say anything else then "pain" so we won't be able to get any more details out of her.

does anybody know if hypermobile joints could cause this pain?

Yes, dd1 is being acessed for hypermobile joints and dyspraxia, she complains of pains in her hands (when writting) and pain in her ankles.

Nurofen is great as its a anti-imflammatory.

thanks - might try it when its really bad.

just did a search on this board about hypermobility and it seems are there a lot of children with ASD and hypermobile joint???

Apparently its very common with ASD, dd1 suffers a lot with it but we think she may also have dyspraxia, dd2 has more severe ASD but her joins don't seem to bad (although she sits in some odd positions and has very flat feet).

Dd3 is also hypermobeile in many joints. She complains of her hands hurting when writing and has difficulty doing sustained writing. She holds her pencil to tight making her fingers ache.

She also complains about twisting her ankles all the time and is flat footed, we are back at the GP's this week to ty again to get a physio refferral.

She is borderline dyspraxic and is being assessed for ASD.

I have read lots of times about a link between lax joints and ASD but no one seems to have done any serious research on it.

Yes very definitely. I had a lot of pain growing up and dcs have more. Dd has had to use a wheelchair because of the pains in the past, and ds has been off school all week because of severe lower back pain meaning he can't sit upright. No ASD in our family, but I have heard that it's not uncommon.

yes ds has hypermoblity .part time wheelchair user , splint wearer and suffers with pain in his joints .like your dd he has speech and language problems so has never been able to explain the pain . no asd though
