I posted a while ago in parenting about my ds who has displayed some behaviours that have caused me concern as they have not seemed quite right. it was suggested that I post on here.
He is 10 and life with him has been difficult for the last 2 years or so.
Some of the problems have been not able to settle off himself at night in his own room, me or his dad have to lie with him and he will toss and turn and say his feet are too warm and demand a hot water bottle filled with cold water to put over them , complains of stomach ache feeling sick can,t sleep until eventually he ends up in our bed for the night.
He is constantly complaining of feeling sick, stomach ache, and this has been much worse on school days where some days I haven,t been able to get him into school as he has become so frantic and upset in case he is sick at school however if I keep him off he is fine.
He had a sleepover at a freinds and the friends mom heard him trying to wake his friend up she went in and spoke to him and he told her he felt sick she spoke to him reasurred him went back to her room then overheard him crying.
I have had him twice stand outside a restaurant distressed because of the smell and we have not been able to finish our meal.
I have had him standing outside the fish and chip shop heaving at the smell crying banging on the window looking extremely upset.
I moved him away from the one junior school becasue he never wanted to go and according to him the smell from the school canteen was really bad the one day he had a school play there and the teachers could not get him to come into the hall to take part as the hall was next door to the canteen, he stood in the corridor crying with the teachers trying to coax him.
He maintains he is much happier at his new school but he does have about three friends there that he knew from infant school who he has always remained best friends with.
He lacks any other friends apart from these three really and he has only ever bonded with these three he easily rejects anyone else he is super sensitive the slightest thing will put him off someoone and he will not bother with them again as a result he never seems to have bonded with anyone outside of these three freidns.
He has no friends outside of school nobody in the neighbourhood.
I have bee to the doctor about his feeling sick he has had blood tests which showed his ferriten levels were low suggesting aneamia he is now on tablets for that.
I have also mentioned my concerns to the doctor about some of his behaviour and she referred him to a child mental health team.
I have had an appoinmtent with them told them everything and they have put him under the care of their team so we have to wait for anohter appointment.
Has anyone got any suggestions as to whats wrong with my ds.

I would never assume to suggest that your ds has anything wrong with him. He does sound very anxious and that he may have sensory issues, my ds has both of these too so I really sympathise.

Somebody who knows more than me should be along in a minute. Sounds like you're doing all the right things and he's in the system. [ smile]

he sounds anxious yes and like he has sensory issues he maybe does need to see CAMHS but id also go to the GP and ask he also sees the child development paediatrician to check what else is going on HTH

I'd agree with Madabout. He sounds highly anxious and has some sensory issues. A referral to a developmental paediatrician would be the best place to start to look for some answers.

The only other thought I had, was if they checked him for coeliacs when they did the blood tests. Low iron can be a sign of malabsorption and when my gp found ds2 had low iron, he ordered a coeliac blood screen to rule it out. It might be worth asking, especially as he's complaining of stomach ache and nausea.

I hope you get some answers and support for you ds soon. Smile

Hi mindscape. I agree with the previous posters: what you describe pints to sensory issues and anxiety (could there be some school phobia there as well?). The child mental health team should be able to help.
