Gobsmacked at what DS ate today

Along with the usual bits small plastic toys and paper obviously.

He ate a BREAD ROLL!

With CHEESY BITS on!

Toast, yes. IF it has the RIGHT sort of butter on with no visible bits and is cooked to the exact colour and consistency and cut with no jagged edges into equilateral triangles he will eat bread Hmm

I was overjoyed even though there were crumbs everywhere Grin

oh wow my DS is exactly the same well done to your little DS thats fab , my ds is ame with food wont eat any bread products except toast cooked exactly to the right color cut a certain way no butter at all showing or he wont eat it and only in morning he wouldnt dream of having toast for teatime thats unthinkable lol getting him to even try a different sweets impossible for eg: he loves choc but only wispa or galaxcy he wont eat any others and deffinately not ones with something on inside Confused

FlaminGreatGallah · 18/03/2011 13:06

Yes that's it with the toast MADABOUT although he will eat it in the evening. It's so frustrating when you can't even give them a simple sandwich!

Congrats on your DC eating custard and couli zzzzz Smile

I've going to try him with another roll. Just have to get the hoover ready!

Isn't it funny how they latch on to something in particular food-wise? DS2 is 4yo and will eat bread rolls (pretty much until they're coming out his ears!) and bread (as sandwiches or toast as long as toasted the way he likes it). But he will ONLY eat egg mayo or tuna mayo sandwiches (or just bread and butter). No jam, no cheese, no meat, no ANYTHING but that for sandwiches. Because he is in reception and is very picky about what he eats, he brings lunch to school, and I have to make sure every weekend that we have sufficient supplies of egg mayo (store bought - knows somehow if it's made at home even if we've made it when he's asleep or not in room) and tuna mayo (no corn, just tuna and mayo, this has to be made at home as he will not eat the store bought) for school lunches for the week. I've tried so many times to get him to eat even just a simple jam sandwich, but he won't touch it.

I was so thrilled when his 1:1 at school took advantage of him being in a particularly curious and receptive state of mind one day and encouraging him to try an orange, as he actually tried it and liked it. I'd been trying to months to get him to eat one!

He wouldn't eat custard though... too "sticky" according to him. As is anything that is mashed, mushy, or of similar consistency. Confused

Congrats on the new foods though - god knows I always feel a bit silly getting so excited over a new food tried, but hey, we take the excitement when we can get it, right? Grin

Flamingreat well done to your ds, could be a new favourite, lol. My 10yo ds eats paper etc too he has pica which means he eats anything even non edibles like grass, weeds, his nappy (& contents yeuch) well worthd a few crumbs i'd say :)

FlaminGreatGallah · 18/03/2011 15:02

School did that to my DS too Triggles r.e oranges!

shazian my N.T daughter had Pica for a bit. It was sponges with her Confused His nappy and contents? Oh how difficult that one must have been!

I can't recommend this book highly enough. It has no answers per se but oh the validation you get reading it and knowing you are not alone is well worth the money. I see it is on Kindle now, might have to get it since the copy I read was borrowed from the SN library.

Will try getting book from library thanks FlaminGreat. DS has had pica for years now, doesnt seem to be outgrowing it, he has special sleepsuit to keep him out his pad when in bed, though given half a chance he still gets to it actually tears to bits and eats. Also eats things from shelves in asda like pack of sausages including packet. I tell you no wonder he's always screaming and has bowel problems. Hard going, cant take eyes off him for a second. :)

FickleFreckle · 18/03/2011 16:57

FlamingGreat, WOW! wouldn't that make your life easier if that became a regular thing!

I wish my ds would eat sandwiches - or rolls for that matter. At home he will eat toast and butter without any degree of pickiness and is getting LOADS better about eating vegetables (if they are mixed into stews and sauces and the right consistency). At school he will eat cocktail sausages - that's it for protein - and will choose between a dizzying variety of scotch pancakes or breadsticks, a banana or blueberries, and an Innocent smoothie or a carton of apple juice. I don't like giving him sausages all the time but am not having any luck with anything else.

The problem is, if his blood sugar gets too low, he becomes completely unmanageable. And - am I the only one who grinds their teeth at the maxim "If they're really hungry, they'll eat"? Not in my experience...

Anyway...woohoo! for your ds and his food tasting adventure! There is always hope! Grin

Triggles · 18/03/2011 17:52

LOL Fickle - I've had people tell me that, as DS2 would rather skip eating altogether than eat something he doesn't want to eat. So it's certainly not true for him!

specialmusic · 19/03/2011 20:46

Well done for him, FGG! :)
