DD3 had a Learning support service assessment on 13.5.10,after i pushed with the school for more help.
This showed DD had a reading age of 7yr6mths,she was 10yrs1mth at the time.
A couple of weeks ago DD had a review of this assessment, which was 3mths late.
Last thursday DD came out of school with a letter from headteacher, saying a copy of the review had been sent into school.Senco teachter was off ill,but i could go and talk to her teacher if i wanted.(even though DD was called he two times in the letter.)
So went into school to make an appointment with class teacher, only to have DD sent home with a note saying they haven't got an up todate IEP to discuss because Senco teacher is off ill.
So went in today and spoke to her teacher.I explained about letter from headteacher and it being the assessment review i wanted to discuss. She told me she knew that, but without Senco there to look at the review they didn't understand what it meant, and how it would effect DD IEP.But not to worry they were still working with DD.
Now i don't know if i'm right but i feel like i'm being fobbed off abit.I also thought i should have a copy of the asessment review, not just the school.Confused

Yes you are being fobbed off, and yes you should have a copy of the assessment review.

Is the SENCO off on long term sick leave or will she be back soon?

If she's off long term someone else will have to take responsibility......

Ask for all of the above more forcefully....

could just be you,ve been unlucky with circumstances, but yes you should have had a copy of the report aswell,if i was you i would get on the phone and find out why you havn,t had your copy, ask them to send it asap,so you have had a chance to look through it before the meeting takes place, you may not understand it all,but then you would be able to ask at the meeting.good luck.

It does sound a bit suspect. You should have had a copy sent to you. It sounds like they are not communicating well at all. Do you have regular IEP reviews? Our school has one for DS2 every 3 months, and we are advised of the time about 3 weeks in advance by letter, which we are required to return indicating whether or not we will be attending plus signature. I go to these, and the teacher doesn't seem to have any problem understanding the paperwork. It seems to me that if the head's letter states you can discuss it with the teacher, then the teacher should have been prepared to do so. If the teacher was not, then my next port of call would have been the headteacher.

Either the headteacher needs to bring themselves up to speed on it and discuss it with you, or needs to enable the teacher to do so. Either way, the headteacher should also be able to advise you whether or not the SENCO is off long term (in which case there should be a temporary replacement) or short term (in which case she should be able to give you a reasonable idea when she is coming back). Either way, your child's care shouldn't be just brushed under the carpet that way.

Thanks for all your replies.
Senco is off for at least another few weeks, according to DD'd teacher. How long that will be i'm not sure.
I'm going to make an appointment to see headteacher.I just thought with DD's teacher being the deputy head she would have known what she was talking about, but maybe not.
IEP is reviewed every 6mths but they are always running late.
I feel like the school are dragging things out, so DD will be left by the time anything else is being done.DD is going to high school september.
