Connexions transition plan for Y9 annual review

Does anyone have a copy of one of these transition plans that I could have a look at before DD1's annual review tomorrow?

I'd just like to see an example of good/reasonable practice before I am presented with the school's effort.

I haven't done an AR before never mind a transition plan and I know they'll pull the wool over my eyes at every opportunity so I'd like to go prepared.

Thanks in advance.

Not sure what you mean about them pulling the wool over your eyes.
Legally staying at school with a Statement is the better option, but noteveryone is suited to, or wants to, stay at school and my DS' school only offers A levels in 6th form.
These transition plans seem to be a bit of a waste of time anyway. In Yr 9 we just said we hoped he would go to local college or stay on in 6th form. I In Yr 9 it all seemed so far away. He has changed so much now that even if we had written reams it wouldn't have been relevant now.
In the event he is going to a local college and his Statement will just lapse. He has had a section 139A assessment, carried out by Connexions.
Not sure if this helps at all, but at least it wil bump you.

Thanks happycamper

The school don't like the wording of her statement and have played dirty in the past to stop her getting provision she's entitled to. I just want to be the best informed I can be so I don't agree to anything and then discover a hidden agenda afterwards.

As I understand your post the transition plan covers the rest of her education then, not just year 10. Is that right?

Thanks for the bump.

They do one at Year 10 and Year 11 annual reviews as well.

Someone from Connexions is legally obliged to attend the Year 9 annual review.
There is a little bit of info about it on yougov.

Al1son · 16/03/2011 23:46

I've found the list on Direct.gov of what should be in the transition plan. It doesn't look like it will mean much as DD1 knows what she wants to do and has already worked out what GCSEs she needs to do it. Fortunately they are all ones she's doing in her part time timetable already.

Well I have read up on the appeals process so I can spout it if they start making moves to change things.

Fingers crossed that it goes smoothly.

How did it go Al1son?

Al1son · 17/03/2011 20:46

Thanks for asking. I'm a bit shocked to be honest Shock

It went swimmingly!

Having fought tooth and nail to prevent DD1 getting a place in their base and been very rude and unpleasant in several meetings in the past they suddenly seem to have accepted that the provision is right for her. The lead teacher's report was almost identical to my parent's contribution.

I would never have believed that they could have done such a u-turn had I not seen it with my own eyes. There was no suggestion of changing anything, they listened to what I said about her organisational skills and made plans to act on my suggestions.

The guy from connexions was lovely and really encouraged DD1 to follow her career ambitions, giving her advice on things she could start doing now to help her future uni applications.

Can you pinch me please? I think I'm going to wake up in a minute and find that it's still Thursday morning! Grin

That's really good to hear, must be a load off your mind Smile

Thanks for the support.

DH has been away for work this week and although he's phoned each evening he's not asked how it went yet so it's nice that someone's interested. Smile
