Lol, that sounds likes DS1s bed, he has taken to sleeping on the floor whilst he uses his bed as a play table for his lego StarWars.

Oh god been there done that, got the Star Wars t shirts! Ds 2's current obsession is Little Big Planet and so now our window seat (once Hoth) is covered in Lego levels, very elaborate and very easy to break by accident aargh!

So no, you may never get your table back. Grin

Lego designated space = far less stress for everyone else : ) It's worth making space for it somewhere.

We currently have a 1970's table with integral storage that's on it's very last legs, so I'm replacing it for DS's birthday with this:- getyourmarthaon.blogspot.com/2010/12/ikea-hack-lego-tables.html

Ikea do a square £6 coffee table that you can stick 4 base plates to the top of. I've buckets already that will fit neatly under it to contain the lego. Unlike most lego stuff it won't require a second mortgage.

Posh alternative for those who have time to make it:- www.ikeahackers.net/2008/06/weekend-project-1-hack-lego-table.html

So glad I don't have to endure a hubby in the attic with a train set too like a friend of mine. Lego from DS is bad enough.

We have shallow but capacious boxes that slide under sofas etc which are brilliant, but it's the partially constructed epics that are the problem and have been the cause of some meltdowns! You just never know when they're finished! And if one bit drops off or has been moved because it's in the way .... You get the picture!

wraith · 11/03/2011 15:07

could be worse it could be degobah. then youd have lego swaps everywhere :)
it build creativity and dexterity so its not all bad

good luck getting oyur table back

and make sure the empire win any battles ;P

Trays! DS1 has to build his lego on trays, so it's easy to move around. Putting it out of his brother's reach is usually enough persuasion for him to let us clear the table

bochead · 11/03/2011 18:34

My DS's current table has foldable legs so you can pick it up and carry it around.

Trouble is as he's got older the models have become more intricate (he wants the motors n stuff for his birthday) so the IKEA table that can be left in situ permanently is becoming a better "fit" for his needs.

Anyone else feel the branded star wars stuff is seriously over priced or am I just tight? (This the Mum who collects the daily mirror free lego toys every year).

davidsotherhalf · 11/03/2011 18:59

we r in the process of setting a lego therapy club up in our area for asd

Goblinchild · 11/03/2011 19:28

I was going to add something alomg the lines of ouryve. we use a sheet of MDF. His father has one too, as he likes to fill the table with a project of one sort or another.

MADABOUTTHEBOY2000 · 11/03/2011 19:35

ds has his bedroom and the family room (he has it spread out on his dads pool table lol)but he likes to take lego everywhere he goes , used to be harry and his bucket full of dinosaurs so ds carried those everywhere and has been the same with whatever his latest obsession is ever since

autumnsmum · 11/03/2011 20:46

hi everyone another problem is keeping it away from dd17 months

ouryve · 12/03/2011 00:02

That's why we use trays - 4 year old with ASD and an OCD need for everything to be all together or ALL pulled to pieces is bigger and more challenging than a 17 MO!

autumnsmum · 12/03/2011 06:53

totally agree that the branded star wars lego is very expensive

i usually get him to pick it up as the dog will chew it (the dogs good and rarely chews toys ) but usually works or tell him the cat always puking fur ball might be sick over it bless i feel so mean

signandsmile · 13/03/2011 08:44

bochead just been to ikea and the tables I think you refer to (the little low square ones), are now £1.75 Shock thought might be useful info...

bochead · 13/03/2011 10:42

oooh yes! That's my kind of price : )

DS may not have to wait till his birthday ; ) The one I want fits four standard base plates on top. It also has room underneath for some decent size storage boxes.

I'm saving for the "simple and powered machines" kit as his main pressie (+ a second hand ds to keep him under control in public) so this is a great help.

Thanks.
