Hi Ladies. I don't know whether to apply for HRM for DS2 or not, he will be 3 in april. As well as him I have a 4 year old with mild ASD and a baby with reflux so I don't want to fill in a huge form if it's going to be a waste of time and I don't think I've got the energy to go through an appeal. If I tell you what he can do can you tell me if it's worth applying? He currently gets middle rate care.

DS2 started walking about a month ago. He can walk about the width of a swimming pool (12.5m I think) on his own while wearing his piedro boots but he is very wobbly, one of his legs turns in at the foot and knee and he can only do it on a surface that is completely flat, like in a supermarket or on the carpet at home. Outside on the pavement he would trip over drain covers and cracks in the pavement. He uses a kaye walker confidently and he can walk about 200 metres with that before he needs a rest.

DS1 at that age could walk about a mile before getting back in the buggy and most of his friends were about the same so DS2 is way behind other children his age but I'm not sure whether he is behind enough. DS2's sn preschool teacher said that he probably wouldn't get HRM but I was wondering what you all thought.

Hi Ellie, according to the DLA details you would be eligible to apply for your ds2, but in reality it is going to be a challenge.

My ds was turned down, he is 7 nearly 8, I send loads of info, and we had a dla dr come out, which was a waste of time. We have gone for a reconsideration, with a 15 page letter identifying all the reasons why the original decision was wrong, with evidence attached, and 35 pages of new evidence. If we are not success this time I am giving up, I have found it a heart breaking experience to go through.

I know that sounds negative, you should apply, and you should get it, he has a recognised medical condition, but go in with your eyes open.
