Mileage allowance for taking DC to school

Does anyone get paid a mileage allowance for driving to school rather than free transport? Just wondered if it was a battle to get and how much per mile I might get.

I take DS to school after council fucked up the taxi contract last summer, I had to get business use insurance [has doubled the cost] as according to council I'm under contract to them I get 36p a mile, thankfully he finishes school on 1st of July as i'm currently driving 122 miles 4 days a week[local college 1 day].
When we contacted council over DS's refusal to go with new company and driver [we wouldn't of let him go with that taxi company anyway] the transport told us to make him go so DH told her no way is it possible to mess about with his routine and asked to be put through to education who totally agreed with us and suggested we take him ourselves. DH asked transport to reconsider reinstating the company who had a 20+ year record for transporting SN kids not a company who only started last year he actually told council they where unreliable [DH is a taxi owner/driver] last week the company went bust.

I was forced into taking ds for a while- Not a battle as he would not go on the bus-40ppm-and insurance- I phoned my insurance co and explained he was my own child and thay said that was fine(but check)

Personally I would not do it unless I HAD to,as trying to drive(quite a way in our case) and dealing with a ds with sn in the back is not a good mix-I prefer him going on the bus with an escort as I feel he is safer(though NOT with some of the taxi drivers we later went with....but that's another story!)

40ppm
that is the most that you can receive according to hmrc otherwise it is taxable (that's my understanding)
however, it is a pittance compared to how much diesel costs nowadays, and the wear and tear on my car - not to mention the time (7hr round trip twice on a weekend)

Thank you both
