Is Rice Dream suitable for GF/CF Diet?

DS usually has Provamel Rice milk but I have started buying Rice Dream as this is all they have had in the supermarket for the last few weeks. Now I've just remembered when he did the Sunderland Urine Test they said that this milk wasn't suitable. His behaviour has been much worse and I was just wondering if it had something to do with the change in milk.

Anyone know why Rice Dream isn't suitable for this diet when other rice milk is?

Thanks

coulkd you list the ingredients here? then I could cast an eye over them...

I have a feeling that technically it isn't suitable - maybe some flavourings, or somehting?

Hi - I used Rice dream when my son was on GF/CF diet - and couldn't find any reason why it would not meet all the requirements. Perhaps his urine test results suggested that he had an intolerance for a particular ingredient / flavoring etc in this - but this could be additional issues aside from GF / CF ?

Rice Dream is not 100% gluten free as they use a barley wash ( not sure what that means really). However I know that it contains miniscule amounts of gluten, sufficiently low enough to be classed as G/F but for some people who are very sensitive it does have an effect on them. So it may well be the milk that's the problem.

yes, there is a big differenc between being classed as gf for coeliac (which has a permissable tolerance rate) and gf for Sunderland gf.

This is where it gets quite hard, becasue even with reading a label - something could have the coeliac symbol on it, and seem gf from the label, but eg barley has been used in the production, as a wash, etc.

sometimes the only way to properly know is to contact the manufacturers and get a complete breakdown of the ingredients, adn the processes used.

the AiA website used to be very good for checking whether somehting was absolutely ok for gf/cf, but it is a subscription site (htink it has changed its name to something like Respectrum, or similar)

Thanks for all your replies.

Shaz298 - now that you mentioned the barley wash I remember them telling me that was the reason it isnt suitable.
