My ds started his new school on Monday. This 1st week has been a completly different experience to the old school. He's happy for a start. He's had 1 major meltdown when getting home from school but unlike the old school the teacher had written in his home/school book (yes, we even have one of those now Grin) that she had realised he had a problem in the afternoon but couldn't work out what it was. That sentence made all the difference for me dealing with the meltdown at home. I knew that it was school related and gave me the chance to help him open up. I had him calm in 40mins not 2hours like had been happening. The problem was then writen in the book and was dealt with the next day by the school Grin. I can't begin to explain how relieved I am about this. The teacher already "gets" my child. What a difference. She might not know him yet but she already could pick up on the subtle signs that indicate all is not well with ds. She's seen the importance of communication and is doing it.

He doesn't appear to be missing his twin sister and she doesn't appear to be missing him. In fact at parents evening yesterday they said she's a different child now and seems more relaxed and starting to settle into a group of girls.

Thank you all so much for helping us make what was such a hard decision to move him Smile. I think I'll be raising a Wine tonight to you.

Oh and I've gone back to my old username, I much prefer it and the rl person can say and think what they like now we've moved schools.

I changed schools and experienced that waft of relief. It's like when it's cold and you tense your shoulders - you go in the warm and your shoulders drop. Good on you rebel - onward and upward Grin

that's lovely news Rebl and glad that both your dc's have settled so well x

Rebl. I am absolutely delighted for you and your DCS. I've been wondering how you were getting on. It must be such a huge relief. I know how relieved I was knowing that DD was happy and cared for and not having to do the daily battle with the school left me with so much more energy to focus on giving her the help she needs.

I just wish all schools would give SEN children the support that our new schools give ours. Well done and so happy for you.

Great news, rebl and bettyboop - I'm glad your dcs are settling so well at their new schools. Ds is due to start his new placement in 2 weeks and even the prospect of that is giving me this unfamiliar hopeful feeling - I had seriously forgotten what that felt like with the last year of worrying and struggling to get help for ds. Here's to new beginnings and positive futures for all our dcs. Wine
