Westwood school, Mold - provide aba for children with asd, the units hard work and tireless effort has helped our son to access mainstream lessons and many many more milestones this way of learning and these people have been a god send - Our LA have intention to close this valuable provision which they state there is no need for, as its not been advertised?! (if children were diagnosed at the age they should be ie 2-3yrs then early intervention would be a most cost effective service but as all LA s are aware leaving a diagnosis till 7 or even later saves them a considerable amount of money - which they will then end up spending as these undervalued people reach adulthood due to them not having early intervention .. mmm its not rocket science is it?! wake up government!)Anyway if anyone would like to save this resource then im planning a good old fashioned picket outside Mold County Hall .. for our children and grand children, autism is a very specific LD with specific learning need please help us.

Thanks

Very upset mum of early diagniosed 5 yr old (cause we paid privatly at 2yrs).

I could not make it for the picket - am hundreds of miles away - but what about doing a petition (think you can do an e-petition via the 10 downing street website?)

If all autistic kids had ABA before the age of 3 there would be huge improvement in the state's finances longer term (less need for residential care, in some cases). But of course education departments don't care after a kid turns 18, as it's no longer their problem/budget, and social services only really care after 18, as then the long term care hits their budget!

Or try writing directly to Education Secretary Michael Gove?

Or your MP?

This is a fantastic unit staffed by some of the best people in the UK.

Get out there and make a BIG noise otherwise it will be buried.

Wishing you the very very best.

Is it ok if I pass this onto another blog? Bloke writing it has quite a wide audience and is very pro ABA, so it might help to get the audience across a bit further. He's Canadian, but he gets readers worldwide including in the UK.

Its quite funny really as the over all budget is still coming from central government (tax payers) but as its cut up ie NHS,education, child services, adult services ect the so called managers of these services are not looking at long term effects of resources only how they look and their budget looks that year(and they get to justify themselves and pay scale) Thanks for all your support and advice on this matter def take all this forward. An update on our situation .. They have now cancelled our ed statement review ( 2 days notice)and put it back to May, as no formal closure has been given yet so wouldn`t be fair to discuss options apparently?!! (leaving it to very last minute as closure planned for July 2011.. how helpful of them, for children with asd that struggle with change a short transition will be the icing on the cake!)

Flintshiremum. you should be so pleased for yourself! It is truely is an amazing Unit. The government are making up so many reasons up as to why they are closing the unit. It is really horrible the way all the parents and staff have been treated. The more people that contact the government, the better. i hope someone there will stand up and have a heart to keep it open. saying that their are facilities when there arent. They said children with asd can go to a special needs school in the area because aparently they have many therapies. but none of these include inclusion into a mainstream school. please get everyone involved so we can hopefully keep this amazing unit open which is ridiculus as it helps then hugely. not just for the children there now, but for children in the future.Keep up the great work!

p.s.bullet 234. what is the website that you are talking about? i would love to see it.

if your on facebook, then you can join this group. please help support the ABA class. but if not, please get in touch with flintshire county council. x
