Think DD has tonsilitis. How the bloody hell am I going to get antibiotics in her?

Pusy spots on tonsils, high temperature, not eating much today and gone to bed early.
She hasn't taken any form of medicine for years (and thankfully hasn't been ill).

Do I wait for her to get better on her own or attempt to give her antibiotics (assuming of course she is the same tomorrow and needs them).

with any luck she'll be better and won't need anything but if she does how?

hints/tips/magic anyone?

Sad, dd wont take it if she knows its in something (so i have to try and hide it), she will then refuse to eat or drink incase i have put medicine in it, i get very frustrated and often give up, dd2 has only ever completed one course of antibiotics (she has had lots).

Don't tell her. Covert Medication of children is totally fine, it's only in care settings you have to have special permissions Grin

Especially as the alternative is wrapping her in a duvet and holding her mouth shut til she swallows it Sad

We are in the process of trying to beat tonsilitis and I know exactly how you feel.

But we now have a system of me holding the syringe with the medicine and my little girl holding a fork with a cherry on it so she knows as soon as the medicines gone she can shove the cherry in and have to say that this working really well for us.
I too have that dread of her needing medicine and its horrible when your worrying about their health and then stressing about giving them medicine, hope you find a formula that works and good luck x

My DD was a nightmare taking antibiotics when she was little. Had recurrent bouts every 3 weeks from 6 weeks until tonsillectomy at 4 years. Getting the medicine in her was a nightmare - in the end a GP said tonsillitis will go on it's own so from 3 years we gave up on antibiotics and she did recover on her own.

We used to give calpol (on occasions) by suppository. You can buy them from the chemist but are expensive (so only gave in emergency).

She was diagnosed at 5 years with epilepsy and prescribed daily medication. We thought she'd never take it but didn't complain from day one.

If you do need antibiotics (for ears) ask GP for nicest tasting and strongest dose. I.e one that only needs to be taken twice a day. A chocolate button on the top of the spoon of medicine may work (not sure how old?)
